Ibpd16 -- "As I mentioned in another post I am really perplexed by the way postal employees are paid."
-- To put it simply, ah forget simply!
-- Regular carriers are paid what ever the route's evaluated hours is. The evaluated hours are determined when ever the USPS and NRCLA conduct a mail count, which can be 2 or 3 weeks. Work under the evaluated hours, one gets paid the evaluation. Work over the evaluated hours and you are giving the USPS free work! That's the incentive to find ways to streamline your work hours.
-- New Taskings, i.e., a new scanner function, for instance, should be paid via the 8127 for regulars or 1314-A for RCA's. Best to note the time for any new tasking on the 4240 ( and make copies, with manglement's permission ).
-- RCA's working the regular's relief day are paid the route's evaluation.
-- RCA's assisting where ever needed are paid hourly via the "green card".
-- AUX carriers and PTF's have their own way too.
"apparently the route is paid by number of boxes and or miles. I'm really not sure..
-- Get a copy of the 4241-M ( Rural Route Evaluation Worksheet ) Should be part of the 2018 Mail Count Guide. It lists the data and time factors that determine a route's evaluation during a count.
" Someone else told me we are only paid for one trip to the 3M case. Paid for one of these, paid for one of those......I'm totally confused and nobody has really explained to me what we are paid for and how many of what we are paid for."
-- That would be addressed during a count as a timed event, hence part of the evaluated time for the route. New tasking are paid as mentioned above.
"I just need to know what not to do to cause my regular any grief when he's gone."
-- YOU are the "regular carrier" for the route when you fill in for the regular. Worry more about getting the job done correctly, than causing the regular any grief.
-- As pointed out previously by "callofthewild" and others, some regular carriers do most anything to keep the route's evaluation as it is, instead of following proper procedures and having the evaluation go down.
