Has anyone seen a career employee successfully apply for public or street career rural regular job postings?

Hey y'all! I'm a City Regular in a small town, with previous experience in the rural craft. I occasionally see rural routes remain vacant long enough to be posted to the public (after being offered district wide): Routes and communities with which I am very or somewhat familiar, and I feel I'd be a decent fit to take over and serve their customers and community. I'm wondering if anyone has seen a current career employee apply for these public-only positions without actually risking their job? Perhaps a tentative resignation, contingent on being hired in the posted position? There are two CCA's in my office that would benefit from my current route becoming open, and --seeing the challenges these rural routes face-- the routes might be better off with my experience and knowledge rather than someone that applies from the street. Thank you for your experience and wisdom!

You can't do internally. I would apply and if you get hired then resign. Double check with your steward or DR

Ally is correct. Put in for it, and resign if you get it....I'm wondering why though....every city rt. I've seen, or worked on is cakewalk compared to almost any rural rt. Are you sure this is what you want? You make less, have, if possible, an even more WORTHLESS union, lose your seniority....I mean....not trying to be rude, but this sounds like the dumbest idea I've heard in a while....its just an opinion, but hey, whatever is best for you my friend...

yep if you already high on the pay grade and go back to bottom thats a lot of money lost unless he/she dont want extra money. i wouldnt switch unless im a cca.
