Help with RCA insurance options

I'm trying to help a fellow RCA sign up for insurance during open season.    The only option I am seeing is the USPS Health Benefits Plan.  Are RCA's not allowed to sign up for FEHB any longer? I know that used to be an option,  but we had to pay 100% of the premium.  I've not looked at it in several years.  Thanks

Yes, I believe that 2-3 years ago, RCA's could sign up on FEHB if they paid the full premium. That may have disappeared after creation of the ACA. Logic being that the majority of RCA's couldn't pay the FEHB premium based on limited work hours. I believe you had to average 32 hours a week to get FEHB insurance. Again, not certain but, most RCA's couldn't afford this.

--  The June 2017 issue of the National magazine has some info on health benefits.

--  Shared Services should be able to answer specific questions and eligibility.  1-877-477-3273, option 5.   That's from the May 2016 national magazine.

I am not certain but I think that RCA's can now buy insurance no matter how many hours they work. I have the United Healthcare Plan and they pay great. Also the premiums are low at just $40 a PP which is going up this coming year to $50 PP.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper than I was paying before it was offered to RCA's a few years ago. Then I had my own through Blue Cross and had to pay $800/MO.
