unanswers -- "Please tell me where in the handbook that it states all of this."
-- If you happen to find that handbook, please let everyone know which one it is, as we all have been looking for it!
"What is the latest that they supervisor can call you into work because they tell me that I can be called up until 12:00 p.m. "
-- There is no set policy regarding the time an RCA could be called into work. Contact your office steward or, if none, your Assistant District Representative to see if the ADR and manglement can establish a "reasonable" time to be called in to work.
-- If manglement says you have to set by the phone, politely agree and the next time, ask for a 1314-A to get paid for the time you sat by the phone and were not called in. That usually ends the "set by the phone until called" mantra from manglement.
-- Check all the office phones for their phone number. Don't pick up the phone if you don't want to work when caller ID displays a post office number. If you can get manglement's cell phone numbers, so much the better. Get an answering machine to act as your "call screener".
"Also I have been sick for a day and they tell me that I need a doctor excuse."
-- Section 513.36 of the ELM ( Employee and Labor Relations Handbook ) -- Sick Leave Documentation Requirements
-- Section 513.361 of the ELM -- Three Days or Less -- For periods of absence of 3 days or less, supervisors MAY [ but don't count on it ] accept the employee's statement explaining the absence. Substantiation of the family relationship must be provided if requested.
-- Section 513.363 of the ELM -- Over Three Days -- For absences in excess of 3 days, employees are required to submit medical documentation or other acceptable evidence of incapacity for work or of need to care for a family member and, if requested, substantiation of the family relationship.
-- If manglement pushes the "need a doctor's note" for a one day absence, might a well have some fun with that.
a. Submit a 3971 requesting an absence go get the doctor's note.
b. A favorite by city carriers: tell the doctor to submit a bill to the PM or supervisor for providing medical information to a third party. Leave the billing amount up to the doctor. The doctor's note can be as vague as desired, thanks to HIPPA law.
-- Even though a past president of the United States said to stay home if unwell, which might be a good idea considering the flu season announcements coming out of the CDC, go into work anyways, and when feeling queasy, stand near the supervisor or PM's desk -- just in case there is an urgent need to empty your stomach contents. Sneezing / coughing also a point enforcer.
