How does holiday pay work?

So I’m a 46k with my K day being Saturday, I’m on the OT list so with the 4th being on Saturday i came worked that Friday which was my K day. In checking my pay stub I was only paid 8 hours for working the Friday as holiday work and 8 for Saturday as holiday leave. Is this correct?

no.

saturday was your K day.

friday was your holiday.

if you worked your holiday, it was YOUR choice how to get paid:

either your evaluation + a day's pay for your holiday, V on the 4240.

or your evaluation + an additional annual day, G on the 4240.

file the grievance.

You are correct about the "K" day and working through holiday. It appears to me from what they stated that they were paid for working the holiday. I agree that they had the choice of either being paid or getting an annual day but I don't see why you would file a grievance. You have the option to elect which way to be compensated but if you didn't make that election then it would be paid as working the holiday. As I read it, there is no requirement for them to ask what you want and a grievance would be fruitless. Now you may talk to them and have them do a payroll adjustment to change it but I'm not sure you could force the issue.

Yes you were paid correctly. Your relief day never moves the holiday does. When you worked Friday it was the holiday you were working not your relief day. Therefore the RDWL is not in play here, so even though you are on the O/T list (RDWL) you are not entitled to O/T. As oi vey pointed out you did have an option to work the holiday and get another day of annual instead but you needed to note the proper payroll code on your 4240.

I believe that Xmas is still the one exception to not receiving O/T for working a holiday. If you work Xmas as your holiday you do have the option of receiving for working it.
