How far is too far?

What's everyone's limit on the length they'll drive to help out at other offices? Yesterday I had an office call me for help on a POV route that was eighty minutes away from me. Is it even worth the extra wear and tear on your vehicle at that point?

The miles over your normal commute pay approximately  $0.56/mile

When I was an RCA, and had a 4 hour aux, I answered a call from a desperate PM wh begged me to drive the hour and 5 minutes each way there ( after I did my aux ), to deliver an overburdened 48 K route that he promised would be completely sorted by him, and ready to go.  It was 105 miles long, 5 hours driving on a good day, no DPS or sector segment, and retrace everywhere so getting lost was inevitable.  Got there, wasn't ready to go.  Finished after dispatch, and PM had the balls to ask me if I would drop the outgoing at the plant "on my way home", cuz it was only an extra ten minutes to hit the dock at the PEDC on my way.  Needless to say, I never went back.  My phone would ring, I would see that PO's number and not even answer it.  The icing on the cake was the POOM at the time said he wouldn't pay my mileage out there for the day.  I threatened to grieve.  Boom money showed up.

As DS stated, there is a mileage payment for the extra commuting distance. Most offices refuse to pay it (even though they're supposed to), so you have to push that issue before going, or you likely won't get it. Personally, I live a quarter mile from my office. There's an office just about an hour away that'll pay me the mileage, so I take it at least a couple of days per week. 80 miles of etravel pay adds up nicely and pads my paycheck pretty well. The last payout I got from etravel was for 16 days worth of traveling there and back. It was roughly $700
