How long am I expected to wait?

I am supposed to be carrying a route in another office right now. Nobody is here or at least not answering their internal phone, the one cell number I have is not being answered and I don't have a key. I have been here 25min. How long am I expected to wait around before I can leave? Or can I not leave?

What are you going to do with your scanner ?  Outgoing mail etc....  If it was me, I would just bring the crap to another office and go home !  What choice do you have ?

If it's an RMPO, take it to the APO.  And make sure you get paid the extra time on a green card, as well as the mileage.

If not any of "your" offices, I personally would chunk it all into the interior outgoing mail chute.  (NOT the blue box.)  Someone will get a call about the scanner not being hung up eventually.

And make sure that you get paid the amount of time you had to wait.  I'd also tell those jokers not to bother calling me anymore.

(I hope you are not still there 3 hours later...)

I guess I should clarify:

I had just arrived. I was supposed to carry a small aux route after I completed my own aux route for the day and auxillary relief for the regular carrier in my office. I finally got hold of someone and got let in 55 minutes after I showed up. I wrote on the 4240 that I had to wait nearly an hour outside.

So, suffice to say, I did not have a scanner, keys, outgoing, etc. I had literally just shown up to help out. If I had not waited, there's a chance the route would not have been delivered today. I literally had to call three different people to get the number of anyone in that office just so I had a contact for anybody to come let me in.

There's that old saying... no good deed goes unpunished...  just sayin'...  <img title="Surprised" alt="Surprised" src="https://www.ruralmailtalk.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif" />

Don't count on the 4240 to get you paid for that extra 55 minutes.

File on a green card.  :)

I will do that - they are going to pay me wait time. I did not have access to a green care at the time, but I will change the 4240 and fill out a green card.

I'm going to take it that there's no known standard on waiting time then? It was a real waste of my time yesterday as I really could have used that hour doing something else not related to the Post Office. I do know that I will not volunteer to work Saturdays in that office again since it's clear that they don't value my time. During weekdays, at least, someone will always be there since the window will be open.

--  Time to do a little investigative work and find out the POOM's phone number at District.

--  So the next time you can't get into a building, a call to the POOM should open doors for you.   On the down side, be prepared to have a large target on you back.

--  Any luck calling your assigned post office for instructions?

--  Other options are calling the fire department or the police.   I thought I smelled smoke or sounds if someone has fallen and is crying for help may gets things moving.
