How old were you when you became an RC?

An RCA in the neighboring town signed on as primary sixteen years ago for a newly appointed sixty five year old regular in a one route town. Figuring he wouldn't last too long. Now at eighty one the reg shows no signs of retiring !! Least-ways the well experienced RCA is on table one and in very high demand.

Wow.

Started with PO as RCA at 57 y 10m. I'm 62 now and senior RCA. Turned down 2 available aux routes, I should be regular in 18 months. Have large routes, I'm assigned sub on 9.2 eval / 113 mile route.

Fortunate to get 3-4 days per week on large routes. Smallest route in our cluster is 8.4 hours and 90 miles. Other days I work my other job as an employee for a contractor....been doing that for 6 1/2 years. Best job I ever had....that "job" is truly my retirement....it's not work at all.

Like others, wish I had started earlier...especially before 2012 but still feel good...we will see where it goes.

REG at 40.
7 years as a six day bouncing RCA in office on a 34 aux run. Working almost 50hrs per week covering my primary and any other in office. Doubled up to many times to recall. There were coverage issues then. But back then if I finished before the 12 rule I was paid full eval for both runs.
Became REG in 2008 on a 40k/l run.
Took a small pay cut in 2010 due to the crazy health insurance mandate of 2010 and my toss of 5% into TSP from get go.

I’m almost in the same exact boat as you started at 55 I’m next in line for an auxiliary route I am interested to know why you turned it down? I assume to few hours? Too little pay? You will still get the next regular route even though you turned it down because you are saying your RCA correct?

I actually turned down 2 aux routes the past year. One was 3.75 eval time, 35 miles with POV. Just too small and a huge cut in pay from my regular job. Great route, no pressure...just not enough money.

Next one I declined about 2 months ago 5.33 eval time with an LLV. More packages than any of the large routes. Way under evaluated. Way too much work for $95.00, same deal big cut in pay.

I should be regular in about 18 months, Jan 2021.

July 5 Friday was brutal, as I guess with most other untis. Everyone on vaca. 2 circs, packages more than Ive ever seen on my regular sub route and heavy dps/ flats.

Plus, an LLV in the winter in the Adirondacks...no thank you. Wouldn't have wanted to use one on the heat and humidy 07/05. I'll take a/c and xm radio any day.
