I can see the light at the end of the RCA tunnel

Don't have a question to post this time. Since it's not common knowledge in my office yet, I can't say it anywhere else, but I just found out that we have a carrier that's resigning effective June 29.

Maybe, just maybe, if all the stars align properly, I might have done my last Christmas season as an RCA!

littlesew&sew -- "I can see the light at the end of the RCA tunnel."

-- Keep off the tracks until you can determine that it is really a light and not a train headed you way!

-- Are you sure that it is "resigning" and not "retiring"? If retiring, the individual could still be on the USPS employment rolls while burning up annual and sick leave.

-- If resigning, I'd say once the individual walks out the door, that individual is off the USPS employment rolls -- one manglement puts in the paper work.

-- Time schedule:

30 days to post the route once it is vacant.

10 days for the route to be posted.

10 days for the route to be awarded.

21 days to place the awardee ( you ) in the position. ( there is an exception - if placement get into December, but that should not apply here )

-- But manglement does prefer to get the awardee placed on the first day of a new pay period ).

Exception #2. If the route is up for adjustment, conversion, or consolidation, manglement can request a 60-day extension by made upon notifying the union.

-- Let's hope that is not needed and that the stars to align for you.

Btdtret, carrier is resigning, nowhere near enough years for retirement. It's a beast of a route, so it may be an oncoming train!

With only one exception, all the regular carriers I have covered for have treated me fairly and respectfully. So I plan on treating my future sub (if this happens) with respect. Regular carriers have always shared Christmas tips/ gifts with their subs in our office and I plan to continue with that (again, if I get the route)

Just to update, the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train WRECK!

I am not the senior sub. However, the one sub senior to me has always said he would only take one of the H routes from our RMPO. Surprise, surprise he changed his mind and now wants the open route. He is senior sub, and it's his route if he wants it. I understand that fact.

I am thankful that he decided to speak up and say something before the bid so that I didn't go forward thinking I would get the route.

Lesson learned. If someone senior to you claims that he doesn't want to bid, do not believe them.

Every time that senior sub is allowed to be unavailable without consequences, grieve for disparate treatment.

I was always available for any route, any time of day at a moment's notice. Over the years, he's been allowed to be only available as a last resort. Management calls everyone else before him except for the H routes he prefers. I never grieved it because I wanted to work, and I believed that he really didn't want to be full time.

Very painful lesson learned. Now the senior RCA that can barely handle a low-volume H route is going to be the regular carrier on the highest volume route in the office, and I get to be an RCA for a few more years.

That's the way it goes, I guess. I can hope that he bids incorrectly.

You still BID that route. I am not joking. You get your password, and BID ALL. I can not stress this enough. You already got a taste of fellow employees lying, so take that as a lesson learned. What would you think if this senior RCA is still lying, and just wants others to not bid because they have a “friend” lower down the food chain that they want to get it if others don’t bid. As an RCA you BID ALL ROUTES in the posting EVERY TIME. I believed the jackass senior RCA in an office I transferred to long ago when he proud as a peacock exclaimed that he had his IBM retirement, and didn’t want another full time job. Well, total lies, and I was stuck with the aux for 7 more years because of my stupidity in believing mr arrogant lying cockypants. I would have been happier in my old office with my fantastic coworkers making regular sooner. Hindsight is 20-20. It’s the POST OFFICE, everyone lies. Lesson #2. Don’t TELL ANYONE you’re bidding. If this person is blowing smoke to throw other bidders off, won’t they get a surprise if the outcome doesn’t shake down how they are hoping, and you get a route. Please don’t screw yourself. BID ALL on the posting, and do it a couple days before it ends in case u have trouble with your password, or web browser issues. Good luck to you.

Shafted - I definitely will be bidding on all. I have a couple rounds of practice from previous postings a few years ago so I know understand the process.

Since this guy called the PM to find out what papers he needed to sign in order to get the route, I do have some hope that he will screw up bidding.
