I don't want to be the sub of record anymore

Hi all,

I was recently awarded an aux route in June. The 4003 was never "officially" submitted, so I haven't had a 4240. The mistake was finally caught and corrected this week- I should have a 4240 for my route then.

I work in a two route office - my aux and the one regular route. I am currently the sub of record for the regular route (a J). I don't want to be anymore but the OIC isn't too keen on letting me switch since there's a sub shortage in my area. I have told him that I will still act as the SOR until we hire a new RCA but that didn't seem to change his mind. I think it will be harder to get things changed over if we do hire one to be my sub.

I dislike spending time in this office now. I just want to do my route and leave, maybe help with parcels in another office or something. I don't care - the place is toxic for me and I want to spend as little time as possible there. Do I have any options?

Thanks in advance and... I hope I'm not screwed.

As an AUX carrier you have the rite to option for the 6 day run instead of the 5/1 option. Nothing PM can do about it.

But by doing this you limit your availability to cover other offices or routes if or not your office is an RMPO or APO. You will have no claim to the matrix.

Choice is more HRS or just the AUX hrs.

Aux subs can assist or run other routes after their Aux route is done. Actually could get more hours holding it down than to switch to a Regular route sub position.

Charlie,

I carry the regular's route and we scramble to find a sub to do my aux. In the event we can't find one, I have to do both routes but may get some assistance with dismounts/big parcels.

As for my office, it is neither a RMPO or APO. As far as I am aware, I can help out anywhere I please after I finish the aux.

When/where/how do I get the option to choose a 5/1 or 6/0?

Thanks again, you guys are life-savers!

As far as I know there is no window of intent to opt in or out of 5/1 or 6 day run when running the AUX. Maybe onset of guarantee period? I'm sure others will chime in about when.

It should only involve you telling/writing PM of intent of going 6 and submitting copy of round dated letter signed by both you and PM to local REP or ADR. Keep original for yourself. Let other route(s) file for coverage.

It's your option not theirs as an AUX to do a 6 day run. Somewhere there is a clause if assistance is needed and LESS than 2 hrs you are the victim to provide coverage.

Remember you must do what they tell you to do first. Then you grieve.

Do the total evaluated hours for both routes equal or exceed the number 12?

At this time, they do not. They add up to a little less than 11 hours together.

The aux route is growing though, and this may change. I picked up three new boxes this week (plus a little mileage) and may be getting another business dismount. Add into that the possibility of a special count next month since we chopped up the first route and added a bunch of addresses to the aux that used to get free PO boxes, I think we might see growth on both routes (last time the first route was counted was 2013)... if things get put in motion soon.

Face,

Thanks for the info. I'll give my local rep a call and ask him what I need to do to get things changed over - hopefully I catch him on a good day.

I will do what I am told as long as it's safe to do so then grieve afterwards if it's necessary. I am normally a team player, though, and would do it willingly as long as I am asked nicely which I usually am. I don't mind helping the regular out any time he needs it. I like him and he's always treated me well and I do what I can to reciprocate. My problems are with the clerk and the less in-office time, the less stressed I will be. As I told the OIC, until we get another sub, I will provide whatever coverage is needed so the reg can get his days off.
