I'm in trouble

Hub postmaster wants to have a talk with me because I call off every time I'm scheduled for Amazon Sunday. I told my pm I won't work it. I work 6 days a week. Not doing 7. Am I on the way out or is her little discussion just hot air? Not that I really care. This job is not the same anymore.

I would first ask, if this discussion is going to lead to discipline, if so, tell this person you will need union representation and do not say anything else.

I guess, you are not on probation anymore ?

I obviously cannot answer your question about your employment status. If its a long wait to be f/t, I would get the F out !

Others on here with more knowledge can chime in for more help for you !

Good Luck !!

I'm a 12 year employee. 10 of those as an Rca. I've been on my aux route for 7 years. Regular on the other route has 5 years left. The future of the post office looks bleak and I'm not sure I want to stick it out anymore. Also, I've always been on the non volunteer list. Thanks union.

How about,
"If it were that important and essential, YOU'D be doing it, right?"

6 days a week is plenty for a comrade to toil in heavy labor. Don't think USPS can afford someone working like that, either.
We are short staffed as it is. I come in and do distribution before I do my route. I average 43-45 hours a week for the 6 days. I dont want to work anymore. Hire an arc.

Start looking and applying to other jobs just in case. Highly doubt anything will come of it but if it does always good to have a backup plan.

Hub postmaster has no more authority than your postmaster. What responsibility do we have to answer to a PM outside our assigned office? If USPS was making a move on you it should come through your assigned office PM. No?

I'm really not worried. Don't give a crap what she has to say. I'll tell her what I've told everyone so far. I've never volunteered for Sunday and I refuse to work it. I got hired in before Sunday was even a thing. She needs to hire some arcs or do it herself.

Hockey is correct to start. Ask if it will result in discipline, if so, then advise them you need to contact your union DR. Speak with the union as they are usually good at one on one contract squabbles (not to minimize your issue, but they are better locally as opposed to wide ranging big conflict unsure of result type initiatives)

Just sayin......if you're really honestly dissatisfied, check out whatever else is out there. Look on Indeed in the field you're strongest in. Craft your resume showing the experience you've attained in your job -- it's lots more than you likely give yourself credit for. Check out other resume examples and follow their formats. LinkedIn has good resources, free to join. You may also know others on that site and can network. Look at other government positions, some are benefit transferrable. Don't forget other government besides federal, such as state, water district, school, etc.

Ok enough of that. Spent half a career advising peeps on this kinda stuff.

-- Assuming you signed up on the Non-Volunteer list for Sunday Parcel Delivery. ( check! )

-- If there is time, contact your Assistant District Representative for some guidance.

-- Search for "sunday parcel" in RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE Section for further info ( ammo )

-- In theory ( or at least according to the Step 4 ), personnel on the Non-Voluntary list can only be scheduled IF all ARC's and RCA's on the Volunteer list have been scheduled. ( ask the Hub PM for verification )

"We are short staffed as it is."

-- from the Step 4: Leave replacements on both the volunteer and non-volunteer lists WILL BE BYPASSED in the rotation IF the leave replacement has approved leave or an approved non-scheduled day adjacent to Sunday or the holiday.

- You can ask your home office PM if he/she will approve LWOP on the 3971 for Sunday's or holiday's.

- If your PM refuses, be tough and say: "Sorry, but I can't work 7 days a week all the time, so I guess I will resign." ( and YOU can carry the AUX during the week )

"I come in and do distribution before I do my route. I average 43-45 hours a week for the 6 days. I don't want to work anymore." ( how are you being paid for doing distribution, which is clerk work? )

- also from the Step 4: In addition, management MAY bypass leave replacements for Sunday/holiday parcel delivery if such assigned work would result in the leave replacement exceeding 40 hours at the end of the week.

" Am I on the way out or is her little discussion just hot air?"

-- Most likely she is getting pressure from above to have all the needed employees to do Sunday parcels.

-- Supposedly District does any firing of RCA's, so probably don't get overly concerned.

-- When is the "talk" going to be scheduled? Why not be proactive and call her to see if it is okay to have your ADR sit in on the "talk".

-- Good luck. And probably a good idea to update your resume!

Actually, Hub is the Supervisor for Sundays & can discipline just like any other Supervisor you work under.
As was said before, ask if it can lead to Discipline & request Union representation if so. Calling out on a Sunday is the same as calling out during the week. You can still be disciplined for poor attendance. You can’t grieve being scheduled on Sundays unless mgmt is violating the Sunday rules.
Now if you did work Sunday & mgmt decided to take you off during the week due to some 7 or 10-day rule, then you‘d have a grievance.

Start scheduling sick leave for Mondays - get your eyes checked, annual physical, see a chiropractor, see the dentist. Make single appointments to stretch out the time. If you quit, you will not get any sick leave paid, so use it!

And if they put you in emergency placement time off, immediately grieve. Any attendance discipline grieve. They should be hiring an arc or an additional rca to give you a day off. While you are out getting a better gig you may end up with back pay for the time off. Outside wages will enter into calculation but if you work less at another job you might walk with a bit of coin.
And any grievance discussion is payable.

There you have it. Ignore all the stupid technical answers that followed mine. People want to over complicate things for some reason.

Working 6 days a week doesn't sound like poor attendance🤣
