Is it normal protocol for a supervisor to have a RCA turn in their badge if they experience heat exhaustion? (Update)

I still have been trying to figure out this big 5-minute potty break-out, being rural that 5 minutes will get me a bush or a cornfield. The next town over has a gas station that is 4 miles one way, going back to the station would be double or triple, just saying we need more potty time.
Bear in mind, that's five minutes for however long your entire day.
Starting in October I'm sure I will be pulling 10-12 hour days again.

@Shmitty 2112

Did you resign yesterday?
Yes. In writing. The Postmaster was not upset about it. He was understating and said the job entails alot and is not for everyone. We live and we learn. Thanks to you guys on this forum combined with my orientation, LLV training and carrier academy I know much more about the craft then I did when I started the process.

Plan B. I have a friend that works on a production line in a pharaceutical blow seal manufacturing facility. He has been on the job for 2 1/2 years. He works a 12 hour shift on his feet from 6:00 am- 6:00 pm. Full health benefits from the start (it might have been after 6 months) and he makes $29/hour. His schedule rotates 2 days on 1 day off, 3 days on 2 days off. He only works 15 days a month. That job is a walk in the park compared to the RCA position. Now he hates the job. He said it's a miserable place to work and mgt sucks and is disorganized. He wants to quit.

He told me one of the reasons he has not quit yet is from hearing the USPS horror stories from me. He said if they only paid him $19.06/hour he would quit and cut grass. He has several customers that he cuts grass for as a side gig. We are in talks about starting our own landscaping company. BTW, I applied for a job at his pharaceutical company two years ago and they did not offer me a position.

BTW there is little doubt in my mind this was a cover up. The Postmaster in my opinion lied when he told me that it was him that told the fill in Postmaster to turn in my badge. I don't believe that because if that was the case that phone call would have occurred during the 20 minute window while I was in the break room.

The fill in Postmaster did not answer the simple question of.. Is it normal protocol to have a RCA turn in their badge if they experience heat exhaustion? That's a yes or no question. The regular Postmaster said it was his decision yet he left out why he made that decision. That's a Man covering for another Man's screw up.

Legally a Postmaster can fire a new hire during the 90 day probationary period without cause. That's would be his defense if challenged. But who wants to challenge a Man the second day of a job then attempt to work for him knowing he doesn't like you? I don't and I won't.

Ponder this:The USPS spends alot of resources educating new hires on the dangers of heat exhaustion and how to prevent it. They don't tell you that in the event you do experience heat exhaustion you will be required to turn in your badge. And there is a very simple reason they don't say that. It's because that is not standard protocol.

You had to turn it in on your 2nd day, 2nd day of what?
The 2nd day of being on the job. BTW I found out at carrier academy that I was not supposed to be working yet because I had yet to attend carrier academy when this happened. We were told at orientation that we could go introduce ourselves to our Postmaster and let them know we were available for work. The orientation instructor told the class that there would be no guarantee that the Postmaster would have work for us, but we could still go ask. So I did exactly that. When I told that story to our carrier academy instructor, he said you are not supposed to be working until you complete carrier academy. I then asked him since the orientation instructor has been on the job for several years, shouldn't they know that?

His response was, "I'm not going to throw anyone under the bus".

Who is driving the bus?

On September 17th I submitted a application for a mail processing clerk. I have yet to be offered the position. FWIW when I resigned from my RCA position my post master did not have me fill out a 2574 resignation form. Why, who knows? Instead he asked me to put it in writing on a blank sheet of paper he handed me. And I did that. At the time I had no idea 2574 form even existed. I wonder if his incompetence or possible manipulation will keep me from getting a offer?

If you have their number(s) contact the rural union and ask if you have been removed from the roles.
One of my postmasters would not cut the official paperwork on RCAs, so it looked to District like we had all the subs we needed.
You can find out, and have it corrected if it wasn't done properly.

I hope your enjoy your new job!

...I wonder if his incompetence or possible manipulation will keep me from getting a offer?
Maybe.... hard to know if you were categorized as resigning or being fired... if they have you as being let go, versus resigning, then that could likely keep you from being rehired... time will likely tell the tale.... USPS is REALLY not the greatest employer out there nowadays, so maybe not getting rehired would be a blessing in disguise.... js.... whatever happens, happens.... look elsewhere if this doesn't pan out... lots of opportunities are opening up nowadays.... 🤷‍♂️

-- When you get back from the future, let us know how things turned out.

-- Hopefully you made a copy of your hand written resignation.

-- No 2574? PM probably does not want a paper trail and plans to keep you on the rolls for a while so he doesn't have to do any recruiting / hiring.

-- Aren't there any other jobs available besides the USPS?

-Are there any jobs avaliable besides the USPS? I am pondering how to reply to this. It's like being asked on a interview how much money do you want to make.

Yes, there are plenty of jobs available. I could probably find work at a McDonald's or Wall Mart if I wanted to in less then 25 days. Perhaps less then 15 days. I live in Columbia, SC. I am 55 years old and college educated. Some companies prefer to hire under 50. And I get that. Entry level jobs that pay over $18/hour here are few and far between. The ones that do are 12 hour shift manufacturing jobs. Since January I have sent out over 90 resumes and have been on less then 8 interviews. I have only had 3 offers. USPS, Fed Ex and a manufacturing job that I declined because it payed less then $13/hour.
