It’s official...

I just did my fingerprints and processing for a PSE position. I’m just waiting for the email from HR for my break in service.

There was a lot I enjoyed being an RCA but with a lack in any lateral movement and a serious lack in benefits the choice was clear to me. I was looking at several years to make regular as an RCA in my area. Even the offices near by offered little hope to make regular.

I want to thank all of you for all the advice during my first year with the PO. I’d be stuck as an RCA forever if it wasn’t for this site. I’ve learned so much from all of you. Your guidance was greatly appreciated.

Aw ! It seems I have watched you grow up like a Grandbaby . I am in complete agreement with you . Everyone has to do what’s best for their family . I know you will do well bebause you care about your craft and seek answers to get better . You will be one of the good clerks like we have . Best of luck !

One of our city carriers quit. We were already short on the city side and now we are even shorter. Management said they would hire me on the city side if I wanted.

Not sure about making the move. I'm comfortable with the easy ways of being a RCA. But looks like salary and benefits are way better over there.

If I were you, I would take a city carrier job, IMO, the pluses far out weigh the negatives.

I am in the same boat. I am an RCA and do not see any upward movement. And to boot, my PM is horrible!! A PSE position opened at my office, I inquired about it with PM and our in house Union Stuart... only to be told by both I couldn’t apply without first resigning my position as RCA. Then, after they hired someone, PM came to me and said: “Oh by the way, you could have applied”. And she walked away. She is HORRIBLE!!!!

The PM I had as an RCA was a good boss but even he lied and told me I couldn’t just apply for other crafts. The only reason I knew he was lying was because of this forum! He didn’t want to lose an RCA right before the Holiday season so he lied. I start my new position soon.

The way i have learned to tell if mngt is lying... is, if you watch their lips, when they start moving, that's when they're lying.... ?

I transferred twice to better may position for advancement as well as increase work hours. The second time I transferred into a vacant route situation with the regular carrier being on worker comp. The Carrier finally timed out and the route went up for bid. When I transferred in I was also the only RCA so therefore I was senior and was awarded the route.
