Just wondering about second trips

Our office only allows for payment of mileage for second trips if we are under our evaluations and we are paid for nothing else.I read on here somewhere that we are paid 2 min per mile, loading time, and mileage if driving a pov for second trips. Does being under your evaluation play a factor in how we are paid or are we being fed a line of bull????Just curious because I trust and respect your integrity over Management's.

That is exactly what I thought. Where in our contract can I find this info so that I can have some back up on this. One poor carrier in our office makes 2nd trips almost daily with no compensation. One more thing, does the additional mileage need to be 40 or more miles before payment is made?!Am I reading this correctly? Just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row! Also, thanks so much for the quick response!

Grieve it. Let them prove you wrong

The carrier that makes trips almost daily will not file grievances. I guess you could say they are job scared. I, on the other hand, could care less if the boat was rocked. My 4 door Jeep is being repaired, so I wanted to be prepared when my 2dr can't hold the load. The supervisor even told another carrier that we are supposed to provide a vehicle big enough to carry our route. The last time I checked, our vehicles should be sufficient in size to carry our route's mail volume, nothing was mentioned about packages.

-- If possible , draw manglement's attention to Section 141.2 of the PO-603: Your personal vehicle must be large enough to accommodate the NORMAL MAIL VOLUME and constructed to protect the mail from loss or damage. As "Oi veh" noted, parcels are part of the mail volume. See Column 6 on the 4241 - Rural Delivery Statistics Report. Better yet show the 4241 to manglement and compare it to what your route is getting now.

-- We were fortunate to have manglement agree that "Normal Mail Volume" was the mail volume handled during mail count.

-- Of course, that was before Amazon and others started the avalanche of parcels.

-- If you are in an office with a mix of POV's and LLV's and manglement starts pinging on you to get a larger vehicle, tell manglement: "Sure, just as soon as the USPS gets larger vehicles for the LLV routes which are making second or more trips a day." ( or words to that effect -- feel free to add a colorful metaphor or two )
