Leave request

I am confused about the leave request slips.  If multiple people request the same day off, what is the prodocol,   Seniority or when you submitted your slip.  I am an RCA assigned a 6 day route, and request a day off weeks ago, I am being told I do not get it because there is a carreer carrier that wants it, and it doesn't matter if I request first or not.  Is this correct?  Do the career carriers trump my request for leave?  It was initial oked verbally, and on the schedule, then taken away the next day....? I was under the impression my non career status did not matter- it was however requested the time first

rebel44 -- The usual practice is whom ever submitted the 3971 first, gets the desired date.

--  If you have a time stamp clock in the office, use it when you submit your request.

--  Other wise, round-date it.

--  Make multiple copies of the 3971 so a member of manglement can acknowledge receiving the request by initialing your copy.   If refusing to do so, note on your copy that manglement would not initial the request.

--  Verbal approvals are worth the paper they are not written on.  While foreseeing the future is not one of manglement's strong points, best to get a signed request as soon as possible -- if your requested date is getting close and nothing from manglement, time to go into the badgering mode.

--  If you put your request if before the regular and manglement lets the regular off instead of you, time to contact the Assistant District Representative -- IMHO.

PS -- Each office operates a bit differently.  Leave replacement availability also plays a big part in the process.
