Load Time For Mail Count

The one trip loading reared it's ugly head in our district years ago; there were so many WC accidents from mail getting away and hurting carriers we never heard that said again.  

Leave your box holders on the floor and when loading time starts, load them.  Plainly stated in mail count guide.

If advos are addressed and not a boxholder, do we get loading time to place them in hamper when loading?

Make sure that you take them in the second buggy load and not the first and you will.

About Advos that are addressed during count, don't allow the counters to "give" the # for your advos the same # as on your 4240, because we often get advos for vacant boxes that would not get counted in that case. Our counters argued that the difference was "negligible", but when a carrier came back off the route with about 50 (that the counters looked up on his route and were all vacant), we got those included in the count. They could  have just counted them as flats, in the first place , which they are, but again they are only used to sitting on their butts all day and quite lazy, so we just showed them the ones we brought back to place in UBBM and had those added to our advo/flat #.

Yes. Anything placed on the floor by the clerks, i.e. Advos, boxholders, large parcels, etc. are to be timed to place in the conveyance.

The advo are numbered. They shouldn't need to count them. Just see what the last stop is numbered and go from there.

But when delivering keep track of the screwed up ones. This week I had 18 in the middle of a bundle that were from a different route and 26 that had no address but we're just the outer cover. That's 44 flats in addition to the ones for the route.

--  A few carriers in my old office would deliver Advos [ Redplum ] over a two-day period.   Manglement said to scan the bar code indicating they had been delivered just once -- on the second day.

So I have a related question.

I work in a mainly city office. We have 15 city routes and 2 rural routes and an rural aux. The city carriers are almost always done loading before we pull so there are lots of empty hampers available. I run one of the regular routes and almost always use two hampers: one for mail and SPRs and one for parcels. They are normally both full. Sometimes I need a third for the rest of the parcels. The thing is: we load all the hampers at the same time because empty hampers are always available. We always have. We get timed for multiple trips - that's not a problem - but should we be getting timed to load the extra hampers? This was not address during our pre-count conference because this is the first I've heard of it.

--  Probably not.   If you loaded all hampers before setting out to load the vehicle, you should continue that practice.   Technically it would be an operational change AFTER the pre-count conference, which was not discussed at the conference, therefore a no-no.

--  That being said, your counter may not be knowledgeable of your past practice and to see if manglement was observant of it, you could try to get extra time for from the counters for loading hampers after the initial trip to the vehicle, but don't be disappointed if manglement steps in to say "no".

i agree with btdret, not extra time for loading more than one hamper, but extra time for pushing hampers to load.  only push one at a time, as it being a safety issue.  everyday i see carriers moving two carts at the same time, even if we have just had a safety talk about it.
