Matrix

Apparently our supervisor wants to redo the Matrix from scratch. I know this can't be done but can someone point to me where the language can be found. All I can find is that no bumping is allowed under any circumstances when it comes to the primary route.

Actually there is no bumping for any of the three positions on a matrix. Once someone has a slot they can keep that slot unless they move off of it.

I don't know where it is in writing but they can't just erase everything and start over. They can however open up the matrix and allow people to put in requests for which routes they want in which positions on their matrix, and then build the matrix based on existing positions and seniority.

The first thing I would do is make a copy of the current one that should be posted in the office. Strangely they disappear supporting the need for a "new" matrix.

There is no bumping for any position. Also, if the secondary matrix position is open, and the tertiary position is filled the secondary position must be offered to the tertiary sub first. Search the knowledgebase for matrix.

--  From the Q & A:

Q - Is there a time frame for redoing the matrix?

A - No.  When circumstances create a large number of blanks on the matrix due to conversions, auxiliary route assignments, etc, management should review the list to determine if some movement of qualified leave replacements or cross training is needed.  ( page 25 of the Analysis of Changes National Agreement 1995-1999 ).

Q - When redoing the matrix, can management change all route assignments?

A - No.  Should management decide that some movement amongst assignments is necessary, only those qualified leave replacements desiring to change assignments will be affected.  ( page 25 of the Analysis of Changes National Agreement 1995-1999 )

If the matrix is not posted in the office, remind manglement that it should be.   If no response, invite the Assistant District Representative to the office for a "chat" with manglement about posting the matrix.

then why do we get a new matrix every time a new OIC comes into office? like every 6 months.......the newest one was done with no one being asked what they preferred. Certainly not done by seniority, but rather by who the OIC favors. In other words, two 'junior' RCAs got prime spots (routes that the regulars routinely call off on) giving then all the work they want.
