Metris

Those Metris Vans are so much easier to work from, such time savers and have so much more room up front that they HAVE NOT given the FIRST ONE to any of the city routes in my office.

Unkillable!

Hopefully I never have to take that challenge but if they permanently assign me an LLV on my very rural 120 mile route....... I'll accept the challenge of killing one.

I've already killed like 3 LLVs in my limited GOV days.

I'm over 6 and a half foot tall
The LLV is way too small for me. Kills my back, sometimes my wrist or foot from driving a little awkward to fit in the thing. Bang my knee constantly on the door frame getting in or out
I'll take the metris every day of the week; honestly it's just outright better as it is. The cage is kind of a non issue.

I'm really not sure how long i'd last having to drive an LLV every day, it's a pretty big deterrent for me in trying to bid to another route...

I was notified today they are replacing my LLV with a Metris. I don't want the Metris but I understand I may not have a choice. I have 5 years left in my career. My route has 500 curbside and the entire route is curbside delivery with no authorized dismounts. I hear people with Metris are developing shoulder problems and this concerns me, especially with my particular route makeup.

I understand they are replacing all LLV's that start with #4 first. Is there a way I can plea to not getting a metris? Maybe have them swap my LLV 4 number with a different one from a different year?

If I have to take the Metris I'll adapt but I'd rather not.
Oh how I wish that metris was brought to me. I am an Rca in a small office so I am often sent to bigger offices in different cities to deliver sunday packages or sometimes on regular routes and they always ask me to choose between metris and llv mmmmh i always choose metris because it is more stable on the road and am able to deliver mail or packages faster

I started this thread back in January when I first learned they were retiring my LLV of 30 years and putting me a Metris.

At that time I first got the news I was terrified. I did not want to give up the long term workhorse I was used to.

I came here and you all gave me your opinions comparing the LLV to the Metris.

Finally, a few days ago I was walking into the building for the workday and saw my LLV attached to a USPS tow truck. I stopped to chat with the driver and quickly learned 4308924 was not ever coming back. I joked with the man about how just yesterday the speedometer started squealing and the needle started spinning 360’s faster and faster until literally popped off the axis and fell down to the bottom of the speedometer face. It was pretty hilarious honestly and I guess she was giving her signal she’s ready to say goodbye. I thanked the man and he pulled off as I watched it disappear in tow up the hill and around the corner. Anyway that’s that.

Two days ago they handed me the keys to an 02 Metris with 14k miles on the ticker. It’s a little dinged up as these things typically get, just a little. It is fully functional and after two days on the route I love it already. Quite operation, smooth suspension and clean exhaust are three things turning me on. Oh wait I forgot, these last two days were the hottest yet at 92 and 95 so the Metris AC was certainly a nice feature.

I’ll be reasonable in its care. I hope the USPS does a good job of providing proper maintenance on their end. If it lasts my remaining planned 5 years of service, I’ll be non the merrier.

Glad to see you like it, I can’t wait to be back in one myself. POV is killing the pocket book lately, if one isn’t in the shop the other is 😔.

mailmanusa -- "If I have to take the Metris I'll adapt but I'd rather not."

-- Be thankful you are only facing the route getting a Metris as the USPS is in the process of testing 6 Conoo LDV 190s.

-- The LDV 190 is a rear wheel drive electric vehicle with just 3 door - driver, passenger, and rear cargo door. No sliding side doors, so it should challenging with loading it. Apparently there is a cargo bulkhead, so getting mail trays and parcels only via through the back door. Current pictures don't have a platform to replace the passenger seat.

-- And if you thought the NGDV was ugly, the LDV 190 is basically just a box on wheels.
Here's a short video that's interesting. And there is apparently an option for side doors on both sides. There's also an option for a slide-out cargo floor in back but I doubt the USPS would pay for that.

It seems awfully long for subdivision curb-side delivery.
