"MY" Aux route

A new aux route opened up.
It is now "my" route...supposedly.
Since I've earned this route, I've been delivering more on other routes than my own. Ridiculous
Question:
After 90 days I have to decide the 5/1 or 6? Can I not decide that now?
Would really like to just do the aux route 6 days a week and help out on other routes when I get back if I have to.
After 90 days, and I chose the 6, can they force me to work other routes?

P-S-E-N -- "New AUX route"

-- While we all liked to think of the route as "our" route, the route really belongs to the USPS.

-- How many hours is the AUX? You may need to go 5/1 to keep money coming in. If in a sub-short office, there will probably be enough work to go 6/0.

-- Is your office a "Formula" office? If so, all AUX's are 6/0.

-- If your office is not a Formula Office, you can select 5/1. You can select 6/0 IF mutually agreeable between the carrier and the installation head. Don't have to wait 90 days.

-- Give manglement a memo indicating you want to do the AUX as 5/1 or 6/0. Don't forget to "round-date" it and keep a copy for yourself.

-- You only earn annual and sick leave while actually working the AUX route. No leave is early while assisting elsewhere.

-- Used to be when an AUX carrier was done with the route, there were just a few jobs that the AUX carrier could perform afterwards. Thanks to the 2015-2018 contract, the AUX carrier can be utilized just about anywhere.

-- Article 30.2.G is what you need to read.

If you wanna be 6-0, go ahead and put it in writing, round dated/copy. Then tell the PM you want it effective immediately. Then grieve it if it isn't so.

Let your lawyer handle the case, you'll have your answer in 10 days.

If I recall correctly when our AUX runner was 6 days...If another route needs help of more than 2 hrs the sub for that route should be offered hrs first. Then the matrix comes into play before you.

This new route should be posted too.

Thanks all! My next question was going to be about leave and sick pay. That sucks that I'm not earning it because they have me working other routes. I gotta get this situation in hand!

The aux is 24/week. With he holidays approaching soon, I will be getting a ton of hours doing the aux and help afterwards. Also, the route consists of 2 subdivisions. Rich neighborhoods. Parcels are ridiculous. This route come christmas will be an extra 2 hours a day or close to it.

P-S-E-N -- "..about leave and sick pay.."

-- Annual and Sick leave are based upon the number of hours you work while ON your the route.

-- 1 hour for every 20 work hours per pay period.

-- 4 hours leave is the max that can be earned in a pay period.

-- Leave can be taken in 1 hour increments.

-- Like an RCA filling in for an absent regular, you'll have to wait until the 91st calendar day on the route to be credited for leave from day one.

-- Also look for a new Form 50 to denote your change in designation.

-- Might as well ask: POV or LLV?

Just to add:
During the Christmas Overtime Period, Auxiliary routes pay actual hours instead of evaluation. That’s from the first Saturday in December through for 3 weeks.

The girl in our office chose 6/0 and dropped her primary sub duties, now she is forced to run Full size routes(anyone and everyones) seems would have been better off to keep her primary and at least would not be working on other routes that may be unfamiliar whereas her primary is??

Sandygirl -- "What is Round dating?"

-- The clerks use a hand stamp that is changed daily to indicate the day and date.

-- The stamp itself is round, hence "round-dating".

-- The only "dumb" question is the one you don't ask.

"The girl in our office chose 6/0 and dropped her primary sub duties, now she is forced to run Full size routes(anyone and everyones)"

-- That creates a partial vacuum! Even if she stayed 5/1, she still could be doing full size routes when not on her primary route.

-- The 2015-2018 allows manglement to use an AUX carrier just about anywhere AFTER the AUX route has been completed.

-- What are the hours for the AUX?

-- However - comma - Step 4 ( R-96 ) says in part: management MUST NOT schedule a leave replacement to serve on two full assignments or one full assignment and one or more partial assignments in a single day, if the evaluations of these assignments total twelve hours or more.

-- If even the assignment hours are less then 12 hours, the RCA may actual need more than 12 hours to complete, not that manglement really cares.

-- On the plus side, by working 6/0, she will be earning leave every day for the hours worked on the AUX.

The route is 4 1/2 hours daily. I see what you mean about round dating thanks. So most routes are evaluated less than 12 hours BUT you can be forced to combine 2 that make up 11 hours? Are they not worried about accidents at all? Not to mention mistakes misdelivering packages/mail?

Sabdygirl -- "you can be forced to combine 2 that make up 11 hours?"

-- Yes. Actually up to 11 hours and 59 minutes for the AUX and a regular route.

"Are they not worried about accidents at all?"

-- Not until one actually happens.

-- A recent mercury spill at a Norfolk, VA postal facility resulted in a postal statement: "The Postal Service's first priority is to ensure the safely and well-being of all employees." There are also bridges in New York City for sale as well as lush land in Florida.

" Not to mention mistakes misdelivering packages/mail?"

-- Not manglement's concern -- until the dreaded phone call from an irate customer.

@PostalServiceEmployeeNewman - this is the form you need and should have given the day you were awarded the route:

https://www.nrlca.org/Documents/WebContent/06b75938-255a-4f4b-8fc7-38de5ae81dfb-A-124.57.pdf

Fill it out tout de suite and hand it to your dummy. Make sure to keep a copy. Also make sure to note on your calendar the exact day that you started on the aux, so when your management screws up your 90 days you can file a grievance for your leave time.

Thanks to SFC.. But how is it possible for an AUX to take leave in 1 hr increments? Wouldn't they then have to take a minimum of 2 hrs?

I am basing this on the 2 hr rule for assistance or call in for various routes.

been 20 years plus, but i have used as little as 1 hour and as many as 8 hours.. the clerks will tell you no, but you can.. my aux was evaluated at 14 hours a week.. p.s. the 8 hours is nice when you "think" you might be leaving the leave earning status..:)

Correct or comment if I am wrong.
Choosing 6/0 I am only to do the aux route those 6 days and ONLY help on other routes when I am done with the aux?
I've heard conflicting answers on this with the 90 days. PM says she can use me anywhere within the 90 days and someone else told me only after the 90 days can they use me to run other routes.

Choosing 6/0 I am only to do the aux route those 6 days and ONLY help on other routes when I am done with the aux?
this is correct.. call a steward, but the vac/sick hour are over rated, especially if your office is short subs,, just make sure this is the battle you want to be on the shit list for..
