Hello everyone,

I have a question and would hope someone could give me more information on it.

I am a RCA who were on the schedule to work this week but I had to report to court for jury duties, I provided my supervisor with a copy of the jury summon and filled out a leave slip as were told to me by her. Now she is telling me that I will not be paid

An RCA doesn't get paid for jury duty. Not 100% sure about an RCA on an aux route, or if they could use a vacation day for it.

--  How many days were you scheduled to work?   How many days did you spend on jury duty?

--  You should have gotten paid something by the court for your jury duty.

--  F-21 ( Time and Attendance handbook ), Section 352.1 -- Court Leave eligibility is for Full-Time, Part-Time Regular, and with MOU #12, Part-Time Flexible rural carriers.

--  RCA's didn't make the cut.

--  If there is a next time, try contacting the court and request a non-scheduled work day for jury duty or have the postmaster do it.   Basically throw yourself on the mercy of the court.  If you only work one or two days a pay period, explain to the court official that missing work would cause financial hardship.  And that you are willing to have jury duty on a day that you won't be working at the post office.

Having had a job around a courthouse and having spent much time in there, I can say that I've never seen that work. And it has been tried. If you really want to get out of it, report the first day. And when the judge asks a question to the crowd of potential jurors concerning if anyone is unable to perform jury duty etc etc, be the firsst to stand up and claim that your religion as a devout _______ forbids you from being able to sit in judgment of another person. Then explain that you simply will not be able to get over your religious convictions.

I say that you should be the first to claim this, because judges willl often excuse you on the spot. Then, when 10 more people stand up to say the same thing, they're told to sit down and wait to be called up.

As for the original question, the USPS doesn't pay RCA's anything for jury duty (unless you have earned leave and use it).
