need sub for aux route

I'm a rca serving 2.67 hr aux route on a 5-1., meaning I sub on 9.2 hr route also as sub of record. Ok Problem is I have no sub..everyone from my office and surrounding offices are having to run it often due to conflicting subs having to work other routes. sometimes they are running two routes as I did today. So much for safety. Is there a form I need to submit to request one? I know I am allowed to have one per union agreement. Po states he has tried to get one in the past ..no takers. and he is still using this reason.but my argument is I have been on that route almost 2 years and he has never tried although I have requested twice..verbally. It is now going to be an issue as I will be off that route this August when I go full time on the vacant route coming up in this office. I didn't think of it being an issue until he stated he could change the day off from Saturday to Monday forcing me to work Saturday to free up my sub to run aux on Saturday..He had to throw in the fact it was a vacant route and he can do what he wants..ahole, anyway I know he can unless I can force him to hire sub before I go full time. Any suggestions other than serving up an aux sub request? Since new standards are a no go for two more years they wont combine routes .. refusing to making it the reasonable way to go.

Thanks.

If you want to find a good sub, go to your favorite sub shop and order one. Other than that it's up you to submit a hand written letter to your PM you are seeking one and notify local REP of your actions. They allegedly have 90-120 days to respond to your request.

Bottom line is... as long as the position is posted on line they are doing their due diligence.  A 2 1/2 hr AUX is tiny. You and others involved need to accept the issue of doing or splitting the AUX in one day.

mamawubs -- " I know I am allowed to have one per union agreement."

--  Sorry -- That applies to regular rural carriers.

--  Page 46 of the 88-page contract.   The employer shall make every effort to expeditiously fill leave replacement vacancies when they occur.   Regular rural carriers shall have the right to require that a leave replacement be assigned to their route.

--  You can submit a 120-Day notice to have a sub obtained for your AUX, but it is usually rare for an AUX to have a sub, especially for a 2.67 hour AUX.

--  There are some unofficial 120-Day notice forms floating around the internet.  Try "leave replacement assignment request" or "rural carrier request for action". ( RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE seems to have changed lately as I am not getting the results I used to.  Anyone else?? )

--  If unable to find the form, just put the request in the form of a memo from you to your supervisor.

--  Your 2.67 AUX and 9.2 regular route come in under the 12-hour evaluation assignment rule, so manglement can schedule you to do both.

"he has never tried although I have requested twice..verbally."

--  "Verbally" does not leave a paper trail.

" I didn’t think of it being an issue until he stated he could change the day off from Saturday to Monday forcing me to work Saturday to free up my sub to run aux on Saturday..".   It is part of the information pertaining to the route up for bidding.

--  The relief days stays as it is for the bidding process.   Contact you Assistant District Representative on it.

--  What is the route going up for bids?   A "J" or a "K"?

--  In a formula office??

--  When is manglement going to post the route if you are planning on getting it and taking over in AUG?

Route will be K route 40 hrs. Regular retires July 20, No other regular wants it so after its posted for them, it will be for bid to me. As senior sub, I'm taking it. Its an RMPO office. I glad to hear relief day stays the same. That was my only concern really.

All I can say is good luck.  I am in an office where we have 1 full route and one AUX route. I was hired as a sub for the AUX route about 10 years ago. I was the only sub in the office, not counting the RCA running the route as a 5-1.

After about 18 months the regular retired and the RCA covering the AUX took the full route and I took the AUX route. About 2 years passed without a sub. When we finally got one I was told they were not allowed to hire a sub for an AUX, we could only hire for a full route. The only option for a sub, I was told, would be for me to go to a 6-0 and give up the 5-1 and to hire a sub for full route. This is what we did and I was told the Sub was primary on the regular route so if I needed off it would depend on the regular route first.  This went on for about 8 years.

I was pretty much in the same situation as OP for about 8 years. I was told I couldn't have a sub because I was an AUX but was told the only other RCA in the office had priority for the Regular route and I ALSO had to be sure the regular didn't need the other RCA if I were to want off.

Now I am in a different situation. I am now the Regular. The RCA on the AUX is a 5-1.  They refuse to hire a sub and the RCA won't switch to a 6-0. I don't think he should have to either. However, they have trained 3 different subs from other towns on the AUX route so they can cover him when he takes off, or cover the AUX when I take off and he(the AUX) covers my route.  The kicker is they haven't trained anyone else on my route. Actually no one has trained on that route in over 5 years. They just assume we will never need off on the same day I guess....

Dude that sounds EXACTLY like this route situation..thing is all the subs have been off at same time at least 4 times in the last year.. I was told not my problem. Can hardly wait till August..will have my full time status and my own sub..I feel I have paid my dues after 12 long years..

I will assume your off day did not get changed..?

mamawubs, He can NOT make you take a relief day other than Sat. if you don't want to. You need to go to the top of this page and click on "knowledgebase" then search "non formula Sat. relief day" you'll find the step 4 grievance that states, in a non formula office all rural routes are to have Sat. as their relief day unless the CARRIER wants another day and Mgmt. agrees. The problem is if there are no other subs available then you may have to work your relief day anyway. If that happens you'll at least get an X day and 50% pay. In late Sept. or early Oct.(not sure the dates)  Mgmt. must post for you to sign the RDWL (relief day work list) If you sign and are forced to work your relief day (if still no sub available) you can then choose either 150% pay (O/T) for the day or an X day and 50% pay for the day.

nancyreid01 et al --  Posting of the Relief Day Work List ( RDWL ):

--  Page 4 ( of the 88-page contract ):

The first opportunity to sign the relief day work list will be three weeks prior to the beginning of the new Guarantee Year period and will be effective at the beginning of the new Guarantee Year period.

--  The new Guarantee Year period begins 13 OCT 2018.   Look for the list to be posted on 21 SEP 2018.

The second opportunity to sign up will be three weeks prior to the beginning of the first full pay period in May and will be effective the first full pay period in May.

--  Look for it to be posted mid-April 2019.

The list is posted for 2 weeks.   That gives manglement a week to get the list in order, seniority wise, before posting it ( supposedly ) for all to see.

You can only opt for DACA 5 if on the RDWL.

Sorry but unless things have changed since I retired if you sign the RDWL you can select one of three options. If you select #5 you will receive 150% pay, a #3 will get you 50% pay  and an X day scheduled by Mgmt. a #1 (also referred to as an R day) gets you an X day scheduled at your choice.

I could be wrong but that's how I remember the RDWL working.

You are correct. There are 3 choices when on the RDWL.

~R is your choice with Mgmt approval; schedule with a leave slip that's signed "approved" for a day within 12 weeks PRIOR to working the Relief Day.

~3 is X chosen by mgmt within 12 weeks PLUS 1/2 day pay. (Only choice if not on the RDWL)

~5 is 150% pay.

X-day rules change for Guarantee to Christmas OT period so plan accordingly.

I read your previous post, saw the possibility of confusion, and twice typed clarifications. Didn't want to seem like a picky person and offend you so I didn't post them.

Not this..... You can only opt for DACA 5 if on the RDWL.

But this.... You can opt for DACA 5 only if on the RDWL.
