Never carried the entire route

Scenario...

I travel to another post office and find mail has already been partially cased on a route that I have never done before. I’m to finish casing then deliver this route. Halfway through the route another carrier meets me to help deliver part of the route. We finish the route then go help a third sub on another route. I’m paid hourly for this day.

A week later I case the route on my own and only get help with 1/4 of the route. It takes me 10 hours on a 9 hour evaluation. On my pay stub I’m paid the 9 hours evaluated time.

I know I’m entitled to case and carry a new route completely solo the first time and get paid hourly. In my scenario I’m not given a choice as it’s been partially cased for me already and I’m told I have to take the help because I won’t make it back for the truck in time. So I never end up carrying the whole route on my own but they start paying me evaluated time anyway on the 2nd day.

Is this right? If so, by their own “rules” I could technically get paid for the evaluation of the route I just helped carry.

On a side note...I felt like a champion this morning. I showed up at an office I was assigned to then told they didn’t have any work for me. I told the pm “great, I’ll just fill out a green card for 2 hours plus mileage”. He just said “ok”. I have you all to thank for the knowledge of that time I am entitled to. Had it not been for this site I wouldn’t have known I get paid for that! So thank you! ?

It's not too late to ask for the evaluation on the first day you worked. Say you just were made aware that you should have gotten the evaluation because you got it now on the 2nd time you worked. Say this was your first time to carry the route, the other was just green card help you were giving. Play it back on them and get your money, if they say no, file a grievance. Managers will tend not to call out of office help if they get grievances from them.
