Ive been a PTF since Aug. managment has done things that im not sure if its the right things. Ive asked the 2 shop stewards with 2 different answers. Im putting these things out there to see if anyone out there can help.

1- im assigned to 3 k routes(no problem there) can they call the regular in and put me on a different route not in my swing?

2-am I required to do tailends, case other routes(basiclly a glorified RCA)

3-can they have me take the curbside mail on one of my 3 routes and then use a city carrier to do the mailroom CBUs

4-am I suppose to have any greencard time?

thanks in advance

-- From the things you listed, time to take it up a notch and contact your Assistant District Representative with the details.

-- Do a word search for "PTF" and "part-time flexible" in the contract to see when and where you can be utilized.

-- Might want to alter or change your "handle".

-- Also search for "PTF" in RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE section.

It seems from all of the posts lately that mgt is trying to blur the lines between rca, ptf, and cca functions, in terms of getting routes delivered. This is disturbing. Lack of experience managing rural with new supervisors is alarming.

Do PTFs get this same treatment as a reg: even if a reg runs 1 min of their route, they get paid full evaluation. PTF the same? They run part of a route, they get full eval?

Shafted -- "It seems from all of the posts lately that mgt is trying to blur the lines between rca, ptf, and cca functions,"

-- I'd say the line was pretty much erased with the 2015-2018 contract which allows AUX carriers to be utilized just about anywhere / anytime -- after completing their route.

-- Used to be very specific non-craft duties for AUX carriers, such as running Express, making collections, or assistance on primary route if a 5/1 AUX, as well if no other leave replacements available to be scheduled or called in.

Yes they can do anything of that if you are a PTF. PTF means part time flexible which means they can adjust your schedule all the time. You are guaranteed the hours for the routes you are assigned to work but they dont have to work you on those routes. Think of a PTF as an RCA that has no options to bid on any routes to change assignments and is expected to be more flexible in terms of scheduling.

If you are scheduled to run a route you should be paid the evalution on that route. If you assist on any other routes you should be paid green card time for those hours. They should not be splitting your assigned route with city carriers and giving you a part of another route. If they do then you green card everything not part of the original route and expect evolution pay for it. If they gave part of it to someone else to carry ect still demand the evaluation as that is how PTFs are paid. You should not be getting paid green card for the whole day if you were scheduled to work your assigned route.

As shafted stated above managment does not see titles like PTF or RCA or CCA or ARC. They just see people as subs or regulars and do w/e it takes these days to get the mail delivered. Most offices that have PTF rurals also have city carries/routes and management usually is more familiar with city side rules vs rural side rules.

Might I add:

File a freaking grievance every time your dumbass manager uses city craft to deliver rural.

Wish more people would do this.

(I.E., city file for rural doing their craft work, clerk file for rural doing their work, city file for clerk doing their work and so on and so on, lather, rinse, repeat. SO SICK of ignorant people totally negating all the hard work unions have done over the years. Being scabs, in effect.)

Understood.

If everyone files grievances, everyone gets paid for the others' work, in addition to what you make breaking the contracts.

And not only in the office. Throughout the district.

Do it enough times and I guarantee that your management will attract attention...and district will shake the trees to get the proper craft designees.

Dig?

And to add... yes, a PTF is basically a glorified RCA. You get a few perks of being "career" but are still a sub that can be worked on Amazon Sundays and utilized before a Secondary or Tertiary on the matrix. You still use "Green cards" for extra work. If you are scheduled on a route, you should be running that route fully but you can be instructed to assist if needed afterwards. You cannot "hold down" a route nor an Auxiliary. If one of your routes goes vacant or injured, you lose that route from your string. Next step is Regular, so keep reminding yourself that.
