New regular fighting for own sub!

Frienny

New member
I'm a new regular and have a sub that wants to stay with me. There is another regular that has seniority over me, but has no sub right now. Can she train my sub on her route so she can have Saturdays off and i have to work them?

Frienny -- " There is another regular that has seniority over me, but has no sub right now. "

-- Be polite when telling the other carrier to submit a 120-Day notice to get a sub.

-- Does that regular have any sub in the #2 or #3 slot on the Matrix?

-- Well, let's step back -- does the office have a Matrix?

"Can she train my sub on her route so she can have Saturdays off and i have to work them?"

-- That would be manglement's call. But not so she can have Saturdays off and you have to work.

-- Any other subs in the office or near by office that know that route?

Primary route comes first. That being said, mgmt MUST follow the Order of Consideration when scheduling OT.

are you too new to be on the overtime workers list? i would research the order of consideration and matrix. sub belongs to management as much as he belongs to you.

R = Mutual exchange (usually used when sub wants relief day off in trade for a different day to work and regular agrees) scheduled between regular and employer

Scratch usually.

Good post.

Cross trained on 3 routes? Can't recall that happening within the past 10 years let alone in the past 3 with APO/RMPO/Matrix. 4003 and go.

Had an RCA out of mix today from another office not under umbrella cover a route in RMPO cold.

Subs are required to be train on 3 or more routes so they can be utilized on other routes if needed. Be prepared as the junior carrier to work your relief day anytime there is a sub shortage in your office.

Another option management has is to borrow a sub from another office. Sometimes other offices in your area may have H or J routes with subs that would like to get some work on the days they are not scheduled and can be borrowed at the subs option to help in a different office. (Occasionally they get borrowed and like the new office better and can transfer, they loose their seniority and start at the bottom again, but some may feel it is worth it.)

We all must remember this is a 6 day a week job, if we have a J or K route then we get a relief day, but it does not have to be Saturday.

Subs are only required to be trained on one route. A 20 year sub could be trained on only one route, and a 3 week sub could be trained on three.

Only if they train other subs on more than 3 routes are they required to train all the subs on 3.

Also, all subs, and all regulars, both on and off the RDWL are supposed to be utilized before using subs from other offices.

In my office I've carried 26 out of 30 routes and haven't been trained on any of them. Not even once.

Found out today another RCA handed in resignation papers Saturday morning.

14 routes APO/RMPO mix. Down to 3 RCA'S counting 5/1 Aux runner.

Order of consideration should be followed. If no volunteers, the junior regular is forced in. The RCA belongs to the PO not the route. Sometimes it sucks for the RCA too because we lose money working a route that pays significantly less than our primary.

Wow! I keep reading about shortages of subs in other offices, and it still surprises me.

We have 8 routes in our APO/RMPO mix. Up until about 18 months ago, we had a shortage of subs (only 3 of us). Right now, we have 7 subs for 8 routes. The lack of hours is frustrating! Other offices must not be treating the new subs like our office.

For example: Want to work only your primary - fine. Want to be repeatedly unavailable - fine. Misdeliver parcels, letters, forget accountables, even miss an Express - no problem. Refuse to work Sunday during December while everyone else is required - fine. State to management that you will be providing no Christmas parcel assistance due to other priorities - fine. Threaten to quit if your demands are not met - management will kiss your a$$ to keep you. Our newest sub had a shadow day with her primary carrier, trained 3 days with a secondary route since primary was counting, carried a portion of secondary - and now she's off for 3 months!

Guess who's going to be unavailable on a few key days this December...I can't wait to see them try and issue discipline to me for it!!
