One of our newer RCAs had an at-fault accident last week.
I'm happy she's not fired, as would have been the case last year.
She is under the impression that she must make evaluation daily. (I don't know if that factors into the accident scenario.)

I'm exasperated with management whipping these poor peeps who don't know any better.
Guess I'll nonchalantly tell her about this website.

We are told this in our district. No excuse for not making our evaluation daily. I'm sure this could never be factor in the big increase in accidents as told by management.
you know there is a excuse right? show them the 4241m and say there is no excuse for more packages/flats/mail than what is listed... you can find out the value in time for said items, and that is your excuse..

Another factor in the increase in accidents is the time we are sending on the road, the majority of us are exposed to the opportunity of incidence due to us being on the road for longer periods of time.

Oh I know very well there is good reason on certain days. Mail volume varies from day to day. There is always some unforeseen delay most days....trees down, road work, car accidents, detours, etc. I just apologize for not being the good robot I am expected to be.

Dollydagger et al -- "We are told this in our district. No excuse for not making our evaluation daily. I'm sure this could never be factor in the big increase in accidents as told by management."

-- The next time manglement mentions "No excuse for not making daily evaluation.", politely ( or otherwise ) ask manglement for a copy of the USPS-NRLCA 2015-2018 ( yes, it has expired, but still in force until superseded by a new agreement ). If they can not produce one, don't know if that could be grieved. If need be, use your own copy.

-- Suggest reading some of Article 8 Section 2 -- Work Schedules to manglement -- in part:

"The carrier's work day may vary above or below the daily evaluation of the route as mail volume fluctuates and road and weather conditions change."

-- You might want to skip the first part which as it may give them unneeded ideas!!

"Daily schedules SHALL be established to coincide with the daily evaluation of the route and adjusted periodically as required."

-- If manglement harps on your being over evaluation - consistently by 3 hours or more a week - and they do nothing but harp, time to hold their feet to the fire and cite the PO-603's Section 151.2 -- Performance Appraisal - in part:

If the weekly time required to serve the route consistently varies more than three hours, either below or in excess of the route's standards hours, managers SHOULD consider corrective action.

-- More than likely manglement will just say "We considered cutting the route, but decided not to." Because we are getting hours and hours of free work from the rural craft ( and the NRLCA does nothing to protect their members ). And in the end, it would mean more ( unwanted ) work for us.

-- Tread lightly has your route may be cut! Your call -- keep getting harassed about being over eval or suffer the consequences of an improperly evaluated route. Your body will eventually let you know what step(s) to take.

Evaluated System a joke..........and then when they badger the New Rural Carriers to get in UNDER a already impossible time..........just a recipe for disaster.

Just the other day....I came in after 5..........Dispatch Driver said "you are late".....because I was after 5........"you will need to sign a late slip"...........I told the driver I am not late...what are you talking about.............Dispatch Driver panicked......someone needs to sign this late slip....Driver called the PM and they worked it out...........I will be damn if I am going to sign a late slip when I am not and even if I am..... the job takes what it takes.

Management needs to make up their mind.....Evaluated Time or hourly.....but please stick to one or the other........

Your district manglement needs fired. They don't know what carrying mail entails, oblivious white collar ignoramuses, getting paid for enforcing fairy tales in a real world. Also.. if they are becoming an pain in the rear, start taking your full lunch break plus 5 min. bathroom break, regardless if you make the truck or not. We are entitled to it. I hardly ever do, but in your case I would start taking them. If they are a pain, then you can you can be a pain to them as well.
"...enforcing fairy tales in the real word." As many know, Walt Disney carried mail as a youngster. This could be where he found some inspiration for his later material and characters. Goofy and Scrooge McDuck come to mind.

Yep. Newer kid in the office I quit from... At the start, seemed like he was going to be really promising. Now he drives around speeding with the LLV door open and daily misdelivers (I know about the speeding with door open, because I see him drive down the street I live on). Of the 10 or so subs that were there when I was (I don't know about the new ones they've just brought in, but I can take a good guess), half of them couldn't care less about delivering correctly, as long as they get rid of everything, and will cut every corner they can to be fast.

If any carrier is being required to work at or below their evaluation, by managers that only touch mail when they pick it up out of their box at home, those managers should be shown examples of what they are expecting of us.
Have them come out to the parking lot and show them the time required to shut your vehicle off, curb the wheels, remove the seat belt, pull the brake, and take the key. Then walk an average distance (to a door) return to your vehicle and repeat the reverse of the required process. Multiply the time it takes times the "new" average # of parcels, (usually more than the # during your last count) and then proceed to add the other #'s from your last count. This should demonstrate the hours more than your evaluation that you are working. The time to drive up to the houses that have long, time consuming, driveways that are now passed off to us by all the other companies because of USPS contracts, are not included anywhere, so include that time also. Ask for your last count sheet and tape it to your case so everyone knows the extra work you do for free and over your evaluation that is just not figured in, on a daily basis.
There is a reason that Rca's have been quitting along with PTF' s and even regulars, in record #'s. When USPS managers are quitting in large #'s we will then know that their lowered pay value is in synce with the rural carriers. I've never heard of one of them resign, unless they were doing so to avoid a jail sentence.

they used to let me start and 630 am. and the truck came at 445 pm. for an 8.6 hour route. now they start me at 730 and the truck comes at 425. So what to do? some days its an impossible task to get done before dispatch. too bad im still an rca. they can force me to go catch the truck. or drive 1.5 hours to the processing plant..

Don't rush around because of pressure... Do your job correctly... They sure can force you to "catch the truck"...impossible because you would then be speeding...Or.... do the 3 hour round trip and get paid hourly and mileage... What's better?...Getting killed trying to get back on time or taking a liesurely ride to a plant on their dime?.... The actual rule says that the pm is supposed to carry to the plant or an RCA in his/her place... Imagine getting in late, no pm in sight, drop your outgoing and beat feet...on your way home call pm that outgoing is ready to go to plant....Then turn off your phone....
