Next friday will be my 5th paycheck.  I was told we get paid actual hours for our first 10 weeks then after that its only route evaluation time we get paid.I have learned 3 routes but we have 10 total in my office.  It has typically taken me a week on a route before I got things down.  Even then, I'm usually back before dispatch but not evaluation time.I guess this means I will working alot of free hours? What happens during the holidays when mail and parcels are out the wazoo?

You end up working a lot of "free " hours.  Any time you do a route for the first time, you get paid actual hours.  Make sure you keep track of that time as occasionally,  your oic conveniently  forgets that fact.  Also, 3 weeks before xmas is the "no overtime "period.  Which only appliesto regulars i think. Theoretically ,  you get overtime for any hours worked over the route evaluation (weekly)  good luck and stick with it.  Sounds like you have the makeup to be successful at this.    The more you do this job, the easier it gets.  The job can be quite rewarding at times.  Listen to the old timers and observe how they do the job and cherry-pick what works for you.  Good luck.  I was an rca for 6 years and am glad I stuck it out.

So if I work the same route for a week and its evaluated at 30 hours for the week but it takes me 45 hours to do it then I would get?30 hours at regular time and 5 hours overtime, and I would work 10 hours for free?  Its a bit confusing. And we do work Amazon sundays too.  Its been anywhere from a 5 to 10 hour day depending on parcels and people working.

Imho you would be paid the evaluated hours 30 plus the 10 at your regular hourly rate and time and a half for the 5 over 40.  Now if you work your regular route for say 39 hours and the evaluation is 30 you get paid the evaluation and give the po 9 free hours.  As soon as u hit 40 hrs u get paid for it all.  That includes amazon sunday/holiday If however your weekly evaluation is 39 hrs and you do it in 30 hrs.  You get paid the evaluation.  Anyone?  Am I right bdret?  I always defer to your knowledge.  It has helped me immensely.

No, you would be paid 40 hours of straight time and 5 hours at the OT rate. If the route was evaluated at 9 hours a day, and you ran the route and stayed under 40 for the week (5 days) in actual hours, you’d be paid 45 evaluated hours. If you ran it six days in a week and managed to stay under 40 actual, you’d be paid 54 hours evaluated. If you ran the route and worked 41 actual hours, you’d be paid for 40 actual plus 1 hour at the OT rate. Regulars have separate requirements for eligible overtime...for an RCA, the magic number is 40.
