No cell signal test

For people with routes that have questionable cell service I'd like to run a test.
•On the MDD push the 3 stacked lines (=) in the top right corner
•D Diagnostic
•B Wireless information

Post a response with
•ADDRESS = ¡DO NOT POST!
•RSSI = ( EXAMPLE -81 )
•SIGNAL = (EXAMPLE 99)
•RADIO = ON

This may be proof that our MDD is non-operational in certain areas .

Unlike the leaders in the Union, I think the way to defeat RRECS is with evidence.
 
What are we looking for? My RSSI drops, but everything else stays pretty much the same. Btw, I was in Augsburg in the eighties.

Address seems to be a GPS coordinate. Bunch of numbers separated by 3 periods.

I sat for exactly one minute and recorded my RSSI (whatever that is). It changed 6 times in those 60 seconds. -95, -96, -255, -96, -255, -102

Signal = 99
Radio = ON

But what does it mean??? (Reference to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy when the answer “42” was given). 🙂

I believe RSSI is strength of signal. I was confronted with a report of signal strengths, one of which was -255. Literally dead zone

So at any random moment, I don’t know whether I have a signal or not, because it oscillated all over the place???

Well, actally “oscillated” isn’t the right word because there was no regular pattern to it. Sat on one value for a while, sometimes not long at all, varied.

Reply sad face because carriers are now being confronted with thing’s literally out of our control
 
As early as 2000, researchers were able to use RSSI for coarse-grained location estimates.[5] More recent work was able to reproduce these results using more advanced techniques.[6] Nevertheless, RSSI does not always provide measurements that are sufficiently accurate to properly determine the location.[7] However, RSSI still represents the most feasible indicator for localization purposes as it is available in almost all wireless nodes and it does not have any additional hardware requirements.[8]

so this is how they determine location?

The best mine gets is -80 and that's near town.

I don't know. " Oscillate (d) " just might be the EXACT word as I do have a saying ; any closed loop system based upon positive feedback is destined to OSCILLATE out of control and spiral into the abyss of failure." This is PERFECT for this " system" .
 
You are looking at cell tower strength. Nothing more and it is irrelevant to location data which is using GPS satellites.

No, GPS is used.
 
The zebra mdd uses a-gps for location. This means it uses cell towers to triangulate your location in seconds, with accuracy of about 6 feet. The futher away you are the less accurate. The rssi can show us the distance from a tower. When the mdd has to rely on gps alone the accuracy drops to about 20 feet, but it takes minutes to pupulate a decent location, about 5 minutes to get to 6 feet from a cloudless unobstructed point.

The zebra specs. And yes they do elevation with 4 foot accuracy (when conditions are optimal) so they can give us credit for stairs.
