SOP?

What happens now is a large case of Depends. Depends on the type of crash, the district manager, the relationship of the carrier and postmaster and possibly the poom or mpo; some people say one some the other. The carrier could be back shortly or not at all. Depends if safety talks have been properly given and the carrier has signed off that he or she was present for said talks. Depends if a PM might be stuck carrying a route on Saturdays if the rca is terminated.

Also depends on who was at fault. Sometimes nothing happens & they’re back to work immediately.
I’m Assuming it was an OTJ accident. There really is no SOP but the RCA can be placed In an Emergency Placement status pending the investigation. If the RCA is still in their Probation Period, fired is definitely possible.

along with whom was at fault, don't forget, they now can know your speed at the time, due to your scanner. had a regular carrier near here that had a tractor pull out in front of them while on a gravel road. seems like the tractor was at fault, but carrier was traveling 68 mph. nearly two years ago, and carrier isn't back yet.

I have seen a new RCA still within probation keep their job after totaling an LLV; only had to work office time and not drive pending paper shuffling, then one day of 'refresher' training. I have also seen a new RCA have an accident in a POV involving no other persons or property be fired for it. In the first POV instance, the PM made little to no effort to plead how we needed to keep the help and just let it happen...the second one, in an LLV, the PM was more desperate to keep the help in the office and tried a little harder to protest firing the RCA.

There is definitely room for negotiation between the local office and the ivory tower at district in my opinion and experience. Discussion, threat of firing, pleading, driver safety training over again, carry on. Or not.

We had an RCA in an accident a few months ago... never missed a day of work, but later had to go to some driver safety training BS... a day's pay for going tho... what the hey...

We have an RCA who was in an accident her second week OTJ and didn’t lose her job. I was told no accidents in my 90 day probation or I’d get fired by my Academy Trainer so I was surprised to see that wasn’t the case for that RCA.

Rca's currently can do no wrong. Therefore the one you mention will have a "day of driver's training " and then be back to work, unless he was still under his 90 worked days of probation, then he's toast.

My sub (under his 90) had a roll away runaway, llv hit the garage, he told the customer to call the sup, left the scene & finished the route. Still has a job, crazy they kept him.

-- Ripley would have trouble believing that! ( the one with the museum, not the alien fighter )

-- Must be manglement is taking the PMG's edict to keep "RCA's at all costs." to heart.
