Offer Phase EXT

For those that were asking about the process and timelines: I applied for two separate positions RCA and CCA (details to come on why I chose one over the other)
I applied for the RCA position on 30 NOV 21; interviewed in person with the PM at my station on 14 December (we spoke on the phone prior to discuss the general requirements and expectations of the RCA position, and was immediately sent for fingerprints the same day. She's pretty awesome and told me over the phone to also consider the open CCA positions (she thought my rural route in the impoverished area we serve-might not serve my ADHD well), but that she definitely would be glad to have me, should I opt for the RCA route.
I applied on 11 DEC 21 for the CCA positon; never heard anything after the acknowledgment of submission email.
Radio silence for 12 weeks; then on 14 MAR 22 I receive an email to report to orientation on 21 MAR 22
Orientation: 21-23 MAR 22 DDS: 24 MAR 22, Driver Training 26 MAR 22, Shadow Day 28 MAR 22, and academy 29 MAR-1 APR 22

Application Status as of this moment: Short Text: In Process, Process Step: Offer Phase (EXT)

I think they don't worry about the status once you're hired.

I just found an offer letter extended to me for the CCA position I applied for; it somehow went to my spam folder (which I check on a regular basis), but it doesn't change the fact that I went with RCA; as many regulars will tell you: having a PM that gives a rip is the make or break you. The girl who ended up getting the CCA position quit on her first full day

I came in PP 7 WK 2, first date of pay is 1 APR 22 for the one person I saw asking.

I went through the entire process,
I applied
took assessment scored 99%
Received a Job Offer, (Accepted the position)
Went in for Fingerprints & Background Check, (everything came back, & was Cleared)
Invited to attend Orientation (Arrived Late, wasn't going to make it death in my immediate family)
Was told they'd move my orientation Date (Training Department) my name & Phone number was left for someone to return my call.
Then without any questions, or even a follow up phone call. the following day was told my Orientation couldn't be rescheduled, and I would need to re-apply.

I drove all the way there arriving 20 min late, but I had a valid reason. Why couldn't my Orientation be rescheduled, I've read online many prior employees getting rescheduled.
Unfortunately they DO NOT make provisions for being late; we had 22 attendants slated to attend our orientation, only 13 reported, and we later found out that 4 of the no-shows rode together: they were rear ended by a semi truck a mere half mile from the training facility. It's very frustrating to go through the entire process (regardless of your circumstance), and then be told you'll have to start over. Just know this; government jobs have to be sticklers for the rules they put in place, because the very language written into their existence says they must give equal treatment: if they make provisions for one applicant, they have to make provisions for all, and that's when things quickly get out of hand. My condolences on your loss, best wishes, and better luck in future.

12 weeks….😕 this is why we can’t hire.

Thankful you kept waiting after 12 weeks! Hopefully you like the job, and the PM continues to be a good supervisor

I lived abroad; so they had to check for any criminal activity in my host country, so don't think this is the norm: or maybe everything is munted at the USPS, and that's why so many regulars are filing 120's on their PMs and supervisors for lack of relief?

The “Fast track” method of hiring created by some highly paid postal executive/s is absolutely garbage. It has slowed hiring down and sometimes takes months to get hired because of it. It is the main reason we are so sort on Rca’s, many like you give up and look elsewhere for a that you hire on in 2 weeks.
I've personally heard of several who couldn't wait the month or more it takes to get around to moving on a potential offer by USPS, so they took another job before we could act. Another failure by our system. We make things so confusing to the applicant they often just give up and find work elsewhere,.

Just a suggestion for you. Either use an app or just take a calendar and write in every day worked or training and how many hours. First, you will be in multiple locations and multiple time cards will be used to track your hours, mistakes happen. By keeping your own record you can make sure you're paid properly. Second, it seems like every other week an RCA comes here asking how they'll know when they're done with the probationary period. Your local Mgmt. does not track this, in fact very, very few managers will do a 30, 60, or 90 day review with you. So you track it yourself. The probationary period is 90 days worked or 1 calendar year whatever comes first and every day counts towards that. That includes orientation, vehicle training, academy and any training, even if it's only a couple of hours it counts as a day. Best of luck to you.
Excellent advice!!

Sorry, back when I was hired, there was no post office web site.

Bump.
And how about the 10 lbs of paperwork in the application and the new hire packet? And the long table with the eager big eyed new hires all sitting around with their pencils to take the test, hoping we get it!
Ahh...the good ole days of naivete.....

yep, there's a lot of Wolves in sheep's clothing out there!
I mean, PM's.

Yeah this is what I ended up doing. Actually went in for a sit-down with the PM, and to fill out some preliminary paperwork. PM seemed nice and said to just be patient as HR handles everything and can be bogged down at times.
As an update for anyone else who may need this info later, I received my job offer email today. My profile switched back to OFFER PHASE EXT. Will be doing fingerprinting and background check next. Pretty much a done deal at this point.
All companies have HR...none have the incompetence of the po...imo

Disclosure: I used to oversee HR functions in private industry. IMHO:

We had to be competitive to get the best candidates in the business world. That meant an honest, efficient sourcing and hiring system. Background checks were outsourced to a company specializing in such to get factual fast results. We had to make good hiring choices, because the cost of sourcing new hires is huge with no return.

The Post Office, I believe, still has the same mentality when many hires came from the military service, which favored the candidates were the right hires. It also came before they gutted the retirement benefits, which were one huge draw to the job because salary was adequate to live, but retirement was guaranteed above subsistence if you stayed your career. Employees were respected back then.

We can't attract quality candidates, either for part time or career positions. Comp and benefits have eroded to where they're not any better than private sector, often worse, and the lure of a lifetime job has vanished. Compensation has not kept up with relative costs of living, or versus other positions in the marketplace.

When we are able to source a candidate who wants to work for us, it takes so freaking long to go through the process, many take jobs elsewhere because they NEED to work and can't wait forever on us. When the private sector hires, the job is spelled out exactly, and we told them where the job was located. At the post office, all of that is fuzzy, and even the post office candidate work location isn't disclosed until the final offer is extended. An hour's commute each way is a huge time and financial difference.

I'm told we advertise only for a short window. Then a gap of weeks before an ad is run again. I've been approached by several persons who want to work for us, but can't find the jobs posted. We are the pinnacle of inefficiency. When I try to make headway at District thru the PM to freaking hire someone, all we get back is "we have a process" even though we do the same thing over and over and somehow expect different results. That's insanity.

Some REGS are tracking postings. 1st RCA posting up for 3 days.

Nothing posted in the last 3 weeks for RCA apply.

Wait time from your hired to OJT...is around 4 months.
Not just regs all of us rcas track postings. we each have a day we check during the week. Might be odd but we started doing it about 6 months ago. We get one more RCA and someone will be sent daily to other offices 😔.

I realize this is an old thread but would appreciate any help. I applied for CCA was sent mvr request did that and a week later a conditional offer I accepted went the next day did background and fingerprint and showed my id for them to make a copy was told I would be emailed when everything came back to be prepared to work 6 days a week 12 hr shifts then today it changed my status back to prehire list. Should I be worried?
