found out today that the reg that was due to retire in june will not be coming back. He has been off on medical leave. Im assuming the job wont be posted until his retirement date?

Sometimes a carrier has lots of saved annual leave that they take at the end of their career.

So even though they're not in the office, they're not retired yet !

Skierstmoritz -- "Accumulated Sick leave and 55 + 26 annual leave makes for a slooooow retirement! "

-- Since annual leave is advance in January for the entire year, if one retires prior to the end of the leave year, the carrier will be paying back those "unearned" days of leave -- if I am not mistaken.

You are not mistaken.

I was out on SL for 6 weeks for surgery and earned more leave while recuperating. (That banked sick leave was like temporary disability insurance.) So, you're still earning leave as you're using leave!

I am out currently on SL, and still earning, only been out 3 weeks, another 4 weeks before yet another MRI and another possible surgery, just had spinal fusion 3 weeks ago, now looking at lower back surgery as well. I might just apply for disability retirement depending on the results of this next MRI.
