Ordered to be at work 30 minutes early

The question is:  Does this go on a green card?  Was told just signing in on the 4240 30 minutes early would "cover it".  But if you are ORDERED to be there early, shouldn't they pay you for it?

I'm not sure I understand the question. You get paid for the hours entered on the 4240. Are you asking if you get extra pay for coming in earlier than normal? The answer to that would be 'no' - you get paid for the hours you work no matter what the starting and ending time.

You are paid a DAILY rate regardless of start time or ending time when working a specific route.

OT rules apply for regular working over 12 hours in a day or 56 in a week and for leave replacements working over 40 actual hours in week.

Be thankful you GET to come in early, most of us would prefer coming in early instead of working after it gets dark.

Tell me about it. I asked to start at 7:00 rather than 7:30 and was asked what day. I looked at the PM and said, "<em>Every</em> day until after the New Year." He asked why. I said I'm carrying 2 to 3 times the parcels I'm evaluated for and sunset here is going to be about 5:10pm before Christmas. He said he would see what he could do which means exactly zip.

Consider yourself lucky you can start at 730.  We have to start at 8am, while rcas can start early, and ccas, and of course the ones who work off the clock.  Such bs

In our area we will be losing 2 minutes/day until 12-21 then it will turn towards getting brighter by 2 minutes/ day. On  overcast day it will be dark by 3:30 so we all will get some" in the dark" delivery time. The USPS can't think of anything to make it any better because we are working for free while they subsidize Amazon. They believe that  Amazon is a cash cow but the USPS is only getting sqirted in the face by this cow's milk while we do the work for free.

If any regulars are starting later than rca's or cca's that is called disparate treatment and should be grieved.

So, you should "be grateful" that you have been told to come in early so you can finish your route as fast as possible so they can send you out to help on other people's routes.

It appears to me that you are working that 30 minutes that you come in early FOR FREE, just so you can be sent out on another route just as soon as you finish your primary.

How can that possibly be right?

It's up to you whether or not you finish your route as fast as possible. If you don't wish the hours of working on other routes then I guess that may be a problem for you. This time of year, especially, that's pretty standard.

What I don't understand is why you think you're working for free just because you come in early. You do get paid for the hours you write down on the 4240, yes? You keep track of those entries and make sure you're paid correctly, right?

Can you explain why you believe you're not being paid for hours you enter on the 4240?

You only get paid evaluation for the route, even when you are ordered to start early.  Some of these routes are severely over burdened, and EVERYBODY (the regular carrier and management) knows it.  But the RCA has no influence on that whatsoever, so they are just stuck with working their ass off on an overburdened route that stays that way due to someone else's decision.

Then when, and if, you get finished early, you have to go out and help the other routes on a green card, some of which are ALSO OVERBURDENED, with regular carriers that are either too stingy, too stupid, or too chicken shit to have them cut.

There is one place where a sub has some influence... that's during count! Most subs don't want to be bothered with learning how to "count" or know but don't think it matters. It can take 3 good days of count to make up for 1 bad day. If the mail volume is there but the sub "forgets" to be timed/counted... well that doesn't just screw the Reg, but the sub also.

Also, the Regs don't have much influence once a route comes back under-evaluated. Some under-evaluated routes are as such due to the cuts/adds that were forced after the last count. I've been cut due to growth more times than I remember and it never fails that mgmt will not take my suggested cuts and WILL cut a low-volume section leaving the carrier with a heavy route & an incorrect volume #. It's not up to a Regular on whether their route gets cut. A route is flagged as overburdened when the eval hits 47K. My 44K acts like a 47k but I won't be cut since it is essentially a 44k. Each hour cut from a route is a HUGE $$$$ loss.
