A newly appointed leave replacement rural carrier
craft employee will be paid the greater of the actual
hours worked or the evaluation of the route (up to 40
hours) for the first five (5) pay periods of employment.
So if I’m past that 5 week pay period now how should I be paid? Do I get paid for what the route I am working is timed for even if I finish early or late?
You get the evaluation unless you go over 40 hours for the week in that office. (Work at other stations is treated like 2 part-time jobs.)
If you work 40 hours and ten minutes on a route evaluated at 43 weekly hours, you get paid straight time for the 40 hours and time and a half for the 10 minutes. If you do the same route in 46 hours for the week, you get straight time for the 40 hours and time and a half for the other 6 hours. ( Management will usually try to send you home before you go over the 43 hours you're entitled to in this scenario. They can do that if they have enough coverage.)
