Police report?

As a former police office, my opinon.....nut job. Make a complaint and file charges against him. Sometimes being arrested can change behavior. Make sure his residence is flagged. Don't want someone else to do the same thing. Maybe he brings a gun next time.

Yet another reason not to deliver packages to a door.

But as for me, I bought my own USPS shirt and visor. I want everyone to know i'm USPS when I come to the door. Too many scared people these days, some who would shoot first and ask questions later.

I have a nut job on my route, have called postal inspectors on him 7 times. I always knew he was flakey and exhibited behavior I found annoying and unacceptable, but one day delivering a numbered insured to his secluded lake front home, I thought my body would eventually be found in the pond when it escaped the concrete and floated to the surface. He was acting stoned, did some odd twitching as he started at my chest. He didn't make much sense...

I told my boss about it, one of the city peeps heard and told me to call postal inspectors. They spoke to him, gave him no contract order, told me mail to box only, write up anything else. I also called local police to apprised of situation, so if I needed to call 911 they would know what was happening. Since then I've called inspectors 6 more times, once after he chased me down the road in his pick-up after I delivered his mail.

They never put him in jail or prosecuted him. (Retired state police on my route say they're waiting for him to put his hands on me. I will do what is possible to prevent that, and if necessary will throat-punch him. I'll be damned if I let my family wonder where I am for years while they look for my remains, killing me a thousand ways in their minds trying to figure out what happened to me.) I may die there, but that is my choice. This flake thinks all women are stupid, so that's to my advantage.

I keep a running log of what he does, in my locker, as some of his harassment doesn't cross boundaries set up by postal inspectors. I researched stalkers online, and warned everyone I knew not to tell this creep anything about me. THAT'S when I discovered he had harassed one of our window clerks while she was detailed out to some tiny offices in the sticks. (I drive by one on my route) He found out where she lived by talking to another clerk, saying he was her friend, etc. She never reported it.

All this cr#p started escalating a few months after my husband passed away, while my PM, now poom, was harassing me because it took me 9 hours to do a 9 hour route with uncredited Amazon. Oh yeah, I'm step 12.

Advice? Call the cops, make a report and press charges. You were assaulted. Don't beat yourself up because it shocked you, that's normal. Call 911 if another problem. Postal inspectors will keep you on hold for 15 minutes and are not first responders. Mentally prepare yourself for various scenarios. My creep has a plan, I need some myself. Make a written statement for the postal inspectors and notify them yourself. (Second time I had to call inspectors my supervisor let a day go by without calling them. Yes, I was livid.) Keep a written record. Take it very seriously.
God Speed.

File a police report. He touched your person by touching your shirt and badge. That is physical/sexual assault in California. And have PM sign off on never go to door again. Put it on a dog card and case daily. If he approaches near you in the future, drive away from the area. Go to a business or crowded area with cameras or witnesses.

Every state has their special peeps...

I hate this for you, as you are the bright new addition with the great outlook. I'm also a retired police officer.

Mostly, document this thing to death. I don't know what your PM will do after this, but I personally feel the local police and postal inspector should have been notified that day.
An assault does not have to involve actual physical injury. It is simply the offer or threat of harm with the ability to carry it out. Grabbing your badge while attached to your shirt will do. In this instance calling the police is not something you have to wait to have your supervisor do. Its you that is out there, and your decision. I've dealt with things like this "back in the day". Yes, usually mentals. As the assault is a misdemeanor as far a city ordinances, we would gather the info, and call postal inspectors, and let them decide.

At any rate, this person needs a visit from either the police, or more appropriately postal inspectors. IMO you've made your last approach to that house until they have advised that the situation has been addressed.

I'm not up on all the postal forms, but write this down, photo it, submit it. Note the incident on your timesheet. If directed to go back to that house, your chain of command should be responsible.

Just a note, most here surely know, but any assault on a postal employee is a felony, handled thru federal courts/US atty's office. In my past experience it was always a zero tolerance type situation, like even off-handed threats in airports or toward the prez. People didn't always go to jail, but they always got a home visit.

All -- Anyone / Everyone been notified about the "panic button" on the scanners mentioned in the "csparks" link?

-- Kind of sounds like something the USPS has / had to pay extra for.

''csparks" -- thanx for the link and for your service in your previous career. And for the info on what an assault might be.

A new scanner option under attempted?.... Crazy person lives here.

I'll never forget the moment I pissed a customer off by refusing to hop over their giant 3 foot snow banks to leave parcel at the door while they exited via the garage door after intense horn blow knowing they were home. They were so pissed their top denture flew out of their mouth. WTF at first and then laughter.

Last resort. Go for his eyes and his crotch. Then get the hell out of there.

If you go to scanner main menu, select text. Then select create message- it has some presets like vehicle on fire( it's really on there), running late, robbed, etc. But, the kicker is office mgmt must have rims program open and be veiwing it to receive your message.
So basically, dial 911. Anyone ever threatens me or acts as a danger to themselves or others = 911. That's above my pay grade At the PO and I want it documented.

You guys are the best!

I will be calling my PM tomorrow to see about reporting the incident. If I have to, I’ll call myself. I already talked to my regular and she was awesome about it. She has my back and was upset that they didn’t send anyone out to finish my route. I did tell her it was ok because I needed the hours as this is the last pay period before I go on evaluated time. I did write out a statement with details and handed that in to the supervisor on duty. I took a picture for my records but I’ll never forgive myself if I don’t report this guy and he does something to another person. Sometimes I’d rather sweep things under the rug and move along but I can’t let someone else experience what I did.

I’m doing better now. I was really worried about working again if I’d have some kind of fear about delivering but I did Amazon today and if anything was just more cautious. I made sure I always parked in a way that makes for a quick escape. I’ll never park like I did that day again! I value being a wife and mother and my life is too important. This whole experience has been eye opening for me. I’m really hoping that my PM does the right thing but we’ll see. I’ll try my best to update you all when I can. I don’t always have time as I do have a toddler?

Its a federal felony to assault a postal employee for whatever reason. Its best file the police report and contact OIG. It should be made clear to this waste of space that type of behavior isn't tolerated. Your safety should be first priority. Relieving to hear management giving you the option to take time to attempt to relax.

Another aspect that we haven't even touched on is that (unless I'm getting forgetful) JFT is a woman. To me, this makes the incident just that much more intolerable.
It may not be PC, but I feel that some goofball guy directing this behavior toward a female bumps the situation into the "now you've done it" category. Really pisses me.

I'm not for uniforms for rurals by any means. Yet, when I started I did get signs for the POV and a USPS ballcap. We have some folks that don't cotton to strangers. Never had any issues, and now they all know me.
Still, the fact the JFT was driving an LLV, plus this goof's 180 degree personality change, makes him sound 50/50. Plenty good reason to drop his ass, at least short term.

Have learned much about my route's creep because of warning everyone about him. Customer who worked casino security said he was banned there. Another customer said he was arrested after a situation where a lady beat the cr#p out of him; apparently he gets off on that. He was arrested for assaulting his 80+ yr old neighbor in store with video surveillance, jail, back to jail 3 times for breaking probation. Customer who ran into him at a bar says she thought he tries to slip people ruffees (Sp?) It goes on and on..

So, YOUR safety first., THEN make sure you keep a written record.

. (In my case, letting him get close to me could prove fatal. In a scenario like that, I want my body found. I also want his body found.)
