Primary on route. ADVICE NEEDED!

Good Day my fellow postal brothers & sisters. My issue is...I'm an RCA, I took over as the primary for a route when my regular was off trying to climb the ladder as an OIC in another station. At the time of me taking over (year and half ago) I was a new transfer, 3 years in my crazy RCA "career" I saw it as good opportunity to take advantage of the hours I would get for doing so. No longer jumping from station to station scrounging for work and income. But there was a condition, since I was to be assigned to a route that needed Saturday coverage, I needed to pick another relief day as an alternative to not go over in OT. Run like a regular minus the bells and whistles and treated like an RCA. Well to say the least the route was dog sh*t all previous regulars did not care to clean it up, it's in a bad area and generally no one cared. I did. I took it seriously, and it only helps me to have a route that runs smoothly and is clean. I made big improvements and customer confidence and moral went up... So to my issue, I have to use a another RCA in the station who holds seniority but is assigned to another route. She agreed that she would assume responsibility to cover for Monday's, well that's not always the case, and it creates issues. So for the past few weeks she has lagged off on her job, does not take Advo or leaves behind, I've tried to be fair and offered to split just to solve issues, but as time goes she leaves behind flats, subscriptions, whatever she feels she "needs" to hold back, and it falls on me the following day. To some it up she is failing and causing issues on route, I need to know is there a way to go around her and offer the coverage day to alternate RCA who is only a few months in but more responsible and in my view for being new, a much better carrier, without the seniority RCA pulling a fast one a filing a grievance and getting paid. Is there any way I can get her off coverage die to her lack or want to due her job and follow through on her responsibilities? Any advice or knowledge would help. Thanks

If she is on the matrix for your route, then probably no, but if she is not on the matrix, maybe a gentle discussion with the PM about how she doesn't seem able to handle the route without always curtailing mail, and that you aren't getting a full day of relief, and maybe she would be more suited covering a less demanding one haha.

Lol, I wish it was that easy. PM's these days want as little, to no issues within the station that in turn would ruin their day. It's easier to shrug it off and say "I'll look into it" and of course nothing gets done. But thanks for the input, it's really irritating.

I too made the mistake of thinking they won't treat me like an RCA once I became regular and that someone would care if I cleaned up the route.

You want the curtailing to stop? Contact the POOM and say your boss is allowing mail to be curtailed. That's pretty much alk you can do. I'm just thankful someone carries for me, I don't care about mistakes and pissed off residents. I'm under the impression you get what you pay for. Want better service? Get a P.O. box.

Grieve for a "full day of relief" it's not just for regular carriers. If your office does not have a steward go to nrlca.org click on departments then on steward operations to find the ADR for your area. You do not have to be a member to access this part of the nrlca web site nor do you need to be a member to ask for help.
