PTF switched off assigned route

I am assigned (2) routes. Can management take me off my assigned route to work an unassigned route and pay the regular carrier to work their off day to carry the route I was switched off of?

I work other routes on the other 3 days and I know those routes are covered based on managements needs to provide flexibility. I am under the understanding that they can’t monkey around with the assigned routes unless I agree to the change.

Am I missing something?

Your only guarantee is the Total hours of your String of routes. If both of your routes add up to 18 hours, that is all mgmt is required to work you bur not necessarily on those routes.
If mgmt pulled the Regular in to work their Relief Day, then I’d assume that no other subs were available to work. Even an RCA on their Primary Route can be bumped to another route if mgmt needs the Regular to work their Relief Day.

During this Covid period until June 6th there has been an MOU signed that allows regular carriers to volunteer to work on their days off, after they are done with their route, and on Sundays, and on ANY route. My guess is one of the regulars on your string has signed up for this. Therefore as if that carrier was on the RDWL you will work anywhere else that you are needed.

That “Signup“ you are referring to is for Sunday & assisting, not for working the Relief Day. If Carriers wanted to work their Relief Day, they should have signed the RDWL.
For this ”Signup“ you speak to, Article 30 & RDWL still has to be followed along with all subs working. A Regular can only assist or run another route if all subs are working, no other option, & it’s not on their Relief Day.
To be used on a Sunday, ALL subs must be working including Des. 74 before scheduling a Regular Carrier.

- From the recent Step 4 on Scheduling PTF Rural Carriers on Their String Routes. In part: The parties agree that PTF rural carriers could be scheduled as determined by management.

- From Step 4 ( R-95 ) - in part:

- Routes maybe added to or deleted from the PTF assignment as needed provided the number of K routes assigned continues to be no less than two ( 2 ) and nor more than five ( 5 ).

- The PTF rural carrier may be utilized on any regular route in the office where the primary leave replacement is not available.

Glorified RCA yes. Everything the union has written is to support and protect the regulars and ensure the subs can be used and abused at will.

Thank you all for the feedback. All subs were exhausted and 1 route was left uncovered. Management moved me to cover that route and the regular carrier covered my assigned route.

I get along very well with management so I’m not overly concerned....I just know if you don’t stand up for your rights, they are inclined to profit by your ignorance. Sadly, until I go regular, I guess my rights are almost non existent :).

It could be worse as I could still be a RCA.
