Hello! I've been throwing mail for about 7-8 months now, I'm doing fine but one of the things slowing me down is fretting over certified letters in my DPS. I'm always so scared that I'll have one and not notice its a certified and just put it in someones mailbox. I've been doing a little light research the past few days and I just wanted to ask if there is a report I can get a supervisor to print out in the mornings that lists all the certs in my dps that day. I've seen someone mention it before somewhere else but they mentioned they were still getting certs in the DPS that weren't listed on the report. Has anyone ever done this? How accurate did you find the report to be? Thanks and have a great weekend!

Solution
Ask for the carrier manifest in the MHTS report. It shows the certifieds and return receipts by office and route.

There is also a certified mail report that is supposed to be validated daily. That doesn’t happen.

City carriers now have CM Lookahead on their scanners. Similar to parcel lookahead, but for certifieds.
Utterly amazing the lack of communication across the PO. We were told by district 4 years ago to stop pulling and AAU certs found in DPS. Was in a mandatory standup. Also told not to bring back for AAU if found on route. Delaying first class mail. How much smoother would this place run if communication was common and ”in my office” was no longer a thing.

I take them all to the door, don't worry....

My point is, we get real certs and we get fake certs in the dps. I'm guilty of leaving notice for a fake cert. Fake fake presort fake junk that looks exactly like a certified letter, wasting my time, stealing my daylight. Why don't they reject this type of garbage at the point of acceptance for impersonating an expensive service?
I’ve been working at the PO for 21 yrs and I’ve never seen a “fake” certified…🤔

WAY back, I grieved this very issue. Not so much regarding the OCCASIONAL Certified letter that was in DPS but for actually PROCESSING these mail pieces in DPS. My grievance was withdrawn. I cited this language from The 603 ;

251 Definition
For rural carriers, accountable items include:

a. Postage due.
b. Customs duty.
c. Special delivery.
d. COD.
e. Certified.
f. Registered.
g. Express Mail.
h. Return receipt for merchandise.
i. Receipt for recorded delivery.
252 Accountability Procedures
252.1 Acquiring Accountable Items
Obtain accountable items from the finance cage or designated area
. You
may be called individually, in groups by route number, or by passing a
paddle. At some offices, accountable items are delivered to the carrier. When
accountable items are found in the mail after you have left for the route,
follow normal delivery procedures.
Return accountable items or signed
receipts for any delivered accountable mail you find in your mail during the
delivery process for which accountability was not established prior to your
departure for the route.

With all of the "transparency" the PO preaches regarding scans and whatnot for the customer, it sure is a shame that we treat these accountable mail pieces like the bulk rate WSS mailing that is processed in DPS. I was not surprised that the union withdrew my argument. That's what they do. What I DO know is that this is the first step in other accountable mail being processed in DPS mail which further degrades customer service. I have not "obtained" a Certified letter from the red room, cash cage, accountable clerk, etc. in YEARS.

Weren't people saying that certs without an arrival scan weren't getting proper rrecs credit? Was that ever true or was it fixed if it was true? So many changes with rrecs that I'm having trouble keeping up.
i think it was true at one point.

first eval i got credit and this eval i got credit.

I had a certified parcel the other day just thrown in my parcel buggy. They are coming from all directions. Whenever I do find them, I still do a 3821 in the evening and put them on the accountable cart. Sometimes I add it to the accountable book and sign out for them at the same time I am being cleared for them. 🙄
They are just reducing their expenses - and accountability - by dumping the accountable items directly onto the carrier.
