Question about Hiring Process

Good Evening All,

I've been looking around here for the past couple of weeks without commenting. Signed up tonight.

In December, I applied for several RCA and CCA positions within about an hour of my house. Got a call for an interview last week from the PO farthest from my house (of course) - about 40 miles away. Accepted a conditional offer with this office.

Today, leaving my current job I got an email inviting me to a CCA interview at an office about 20 miles away. For the RCA job, the email came from the PM - for this CCA job, the email seemed more generic and mass sent. It asked me to call the postmaster to set up interview for Wednesday (this is the ONLY day next week that I absolutely can't get out of my current job for an interview).

Regardless - how does this work. My start date with RCA is not unil 2/5. Say I interview for the CCA position and am offered the job. Can I take this job even though I have accepted another position? Two new jobs just popped up on USPS.com today that are half the travel time of the job I just accepted.

I applied for both of those jobs - what if I get called for interviews? I'm just curious how this process would work if I wanted to move closer.

Thanks for any help or input you might have on how to handle this.

OMG, a Joshua Johnson fan... I say bring back Diane Rehm...

I saw under the new members listing, there's also a UPS NPR listening Guy... who knew NPR was so popular...

If you're gonna work for the USPS, 1st thing you gotta do is figure out the diff between USPS & UPS... hint: they're the guys with the big Brown trucks...

Until you are actually hired, and have gone through some training, you're not technically an employee. I started my application/hiring process in October, went through some driver training and on-the-job training in Nov but my start date with USPS wasn't until January. Until you're on the actual floor working with side by side with another employee, and have clocked in as a CCA, or been given a green card as a RCA, you're not hired. That said, you can accept any of the offers that have been offered to you, and you can interview with everyone. It's your smorgasbord. Even if you interview and say yes, you can always go interview with another. Just watch what you sign!! Again, that being said, good luck. It's a brutally hard company to work for.

"Until you’re on the actual floor working with side by side with another employee, and have clocked in as a CCA, or been given a green card as a RCA, you’re not hired."

Not true. You are officially hired the day you take the oath at orientation for new employees.

Back in the good ole days it sometimes took many months to become hired. Today they are hiring people and they come in the next week and receiving OJT whereas before you had to jump through hoops.

Agree. My dad was a Rural Carrier for 35 years - said he took the test and then didn't hear anything for almost a year. Two PO called him within 2 or 3 days - went with the first place that called him.

I'm now pre-hire for another PO for RCA that is about 20 minutes and more than 20 miles closer than the place I accepted an offer from. My start date is not for another three weeks. Can I accept a second offer?
