Question on applying

Grosshands

New member
RCA 8 months in and past probation. applying for a few open spots at other offices, my home office is huge, I'm constantly being sent to other offices, a few weeks ago I had been sent to five different offices within a week and a half, and I've had so little time on ANY routes at my home office, which makes me look bad to my sups.

Long story cut short, not having a great time and thinking nothing will change, turn over for carriers and supervisors has been high these last 8 months, and I'm thinking I should open myself up to some new opportunities.

If I'm applying for positions outside these offices do I need to inform my supervisors? Do I need to quit or put in my two weeks before hand? I know that sounds insane, but I don't want my resumes thrown out for being seen as 'sneaky' about this, if that makes sense.

TIA!

I think you have to wait a year to switch offices. For some reason that sticks in my head. But I'm not 100% sure.

IF I remember correctly......You talk to the prospective PM and see if they are willing to take you on.

If yes....Then you tell your old PM. The old PM has no say about it.

We had a few RCAs move out of our office and think this is how it was done.

BS

Thanks for the response! So it works that way outside of transferring? If I'm just on the website trying to get hired like any one else still have to wait a year? I could see that being true, but man, I hope it's not, tbh! :d

Acutally I don't think its a year, its past probation (ie 90 days worked) and whether the new office will take you. You just call the office you want to go to or go in and talk to PM and ask.

We had a few transfer about the 9 month mark, not sure if they were past probation or if they just let them go because they were close to it. It never hurts to ask.

Why do that?

If you are past probation, use the website as a tool to see where openings are and then go talk to those PMs.

To add to boxstuffer and dannkim's responses, your PM has up to 30 days to release you to the new office. After that, you wave bye bye and go about your business. :)

I believe when you transfer you have a new probation period in that office,

No.

Once you buy a vowel, it's yours to keep.

(No new probation for anyone, at any time.)

Grosshands -- "If I’m applying for positions outside these offices do I need to inform my supervisors? "

-- Not really, but probably giving manglement a heads up would be the proper / professional thing to do.

-- Who knows, they might tend to look at you in a more favorable light, knowing they could be losing you.

"Do I need to quit or put in my two weeks before hand?"

-- Good grief NO, don't quit! Two week notice also not required. See above.

-- Best to go out on a friendly note -- you have the opportunity to transfer back at some time - long after current manglement has departed.

-- When the new office accepts you, nothing your current office can do aside from holding you for the full 30 days.

" a few weeks ago I had been sent to five different offices within a week and a half, and I’ve had so little time on ANY routes at my home office, which makes me look bad to my sups."

-- Sounds as if your office has plenty of subs if they can farm you out to other offices and still cover the office's routes. If manglement is wondering why you have problems on office routes, then seeking another office is probably a good idea.

"I’m thinking I should open myself up to some new opportunities. "

-- If some of those "new opportunities" are outside the USPS, probably a good option.

-- Remember -- the only place the grass is greener is over the septic tank.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I guess I was going about this whole process incorrectly! Haven't learned much from management when asking questions, so it's good to see this site (and my coworkers) have the knowledge to help! I appreciate it! So stoked!

Just remember this:

Management is not your friend.

Management will never or rarely do anything helpful.

Mangement's lips moving means management is lying.

Good luck to ya! Hope you find a better office!!
