Question regarding order of consideration and a 5/1 Aux carrier

I'll start off with a little background first.  Im in a small office with 5 K routes and an Aux route(3.17/day / 19 hours weekly).  We have 4 RCA including myself.  Myself and one other RCA know all 6 routes and the other two RCA's refuse to learn or work any other routes than their primaries.  The other RCA that knows all the routes in the Carrier on the Aux route and choose the 5/1 option.

Anyways, Last Wednesday one of the regulars out in for a day off.  The primary RCA on this route was unavailable to cover the route.  The PM ended up scheduling the RCA on the Aux route to cover the route.  I didn't happen to be scheduled at all on that day.  My question is essentially was this the correct way to cover that route for the day.  My understanding is that I should have been used to cover the route before the RCA that did as his primary responsibility should be working the Aux route or his regulars K day.  I couldn't find the right section in the contract to be certain but so I wanted to get some input on here before going to talk to my PM and filing a grievance.

Thanks

Start <strong><a href="https://knowledgebase.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/additional-duties-aux-carrier.pdf">here</a>, </strong>paying particular attention to #3.

I'll be back with the rest of the pertinent information.

Need more info.

Did the aux carrier run both routes? What was the evaluation of the K route? Are you listed as secondary or tertiary on that K? Who has more seniority?

The above step 4 should be enough for your purposes...but you also need to understand how the matrix works.

So go<strong> <a href="https://knowledgebase.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/leave_replacement_matrix_guidelines-1-copy.pdf">here</a></strong>.

<a href="https://knowledgebase.ruralinfo.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/o-6.pdf"><strong>This</strong></a> is the order of consideration...and you have a grievance - utilize #5, since your office doesn't sound like it has all slots on the matrix filled.

Sorry deer, was typing all that up when you were answering.

I was reading into the OP's posting...because if I understand everything correctly, aux carriers cannot be utilized until all other leave replacements are utilized, yes?

The aux carrier only ran one route.  Our 4th rca ran the aux route that day.  The K route is 45 or 46K(9.2 hours per day).  The matrix we have is useless it looks as follows

               Carrier                 Primary                  Secondary                Tertiary

R1          Regular 1              RCA 1                      RCA2/RCA3

R2          Regular 2              vacant                     RCA2/RCA3

R3          Regular 3              RCA 2                     RCA2/RCA3

R4(aux)  RCA 2                   RCA 4                      RCA2/RCA3

R5          Regular 4             vacant                       RCA2/RCA3

R6           Regular 5            RCA 3(myself)            RCA2/RCA3

So RCA 1 was unavailable to run route 1, rca 2 ran the route, rca 4 ran the aux route and I didnt not work that day.  As for seniority he has more seniority than me.

Your matrix is screwed up. Each sub should have 1 primary route. After the primary they should be listed in no more than 2 other positions. That might be 2 secondary, 2 tertiary,  or 1 of each. Why are RCA 2/RCA 3 listed so many times?

Route 4 aux should most likely have no secondary or tertiary subs listed. The 5/1 aux should not have been pulled off the aux.

It most certainly is and thats thanks to a PM who is utterly useless and has not a single clue what he is doing.  Im assuming the reason RCA 2/RCA 3 are listed in all the secondary/tertiary slots is that he knew he need to have a matrix posted but had no idea how to actually do it so he put them us in every slot because we each know all 6 routes.

Anyways, I appreciate the information helping me to confirm what I thought was actually true.

Agreed, Aux. route should have no secondary or tertiary subs listed.

Aux. routes should not be listed on the Matrix.
