RAILROAD CROSSING

I have a couple of railroad crossings on my route, don't know if i'm getting credit for these as stops. Do stops at railroad crossings count as my number of route stops?

--  That should be asked / addressed while doing the route inspection with manglement.  Or when doing the "route populating."

--  During count:

--  You should get a "reasonable time allowance" for unusual conditions.   Step 4 ( M-77 )

--  The parties agree there may be instances when time spent waiting for a train crossing should be credited in Column 17.   Step 4 ( M-66 )

--  Page 120 of the PO-603.  Column 17 -- Other Suitable Allowance.  a.  A reasonable time allowance may be claimed for unusual conditions, or for other services rendered on a daily or weekly basis that are not accounted for under the normal work functions.

stop signs, do not count as route stops, so i doubt a railroad crossing where you may or may not stop, would count.  i have 325 regular boxes and several authorized dismounts for cbu boxes.  i have 305 stops. not all boxes even count as a stop.

to get time for a crossing, you  have to have a regular routine schedule of stopping.  the most i ever heard of, was a carrier that got 4 hours a week. some areas have a lot more trains than others.

As long as you are stopped, you should get credit.

Time yourself (you should have a stopwatch, or at the very least, use your phone) and make sure you get credit when you get back.

Last time I counted, I lucked out and had a train every day. Most days I waited 1 - 3 minutes. But one memorable day, it was 13 minutes.

Don't leave money on the table.

Once your route is populated, stop signs, railroad crossings and the like will have a weighted value and will count into your new eval.

As was said, it's a timed function under Col. 17. When I catch a train at my crossing, I take a photo & time it with a stopwatch I keep next to me. If it gets redlined, fight it! It's in the count guide. I've had to in quite a few counts since most of our routes don't have to cross tracks.
