RCA and OT ?

I am an RCA looking at my 4240...weekly standard hours are 58:24 but evaluated hours are 48, with the daily at 9.6. My first question is why the difference? is 48 what the primary gets? if so, is he paid OT for that additional 8 above forty? I have read somewhere in a forum here that the OT is already calculated in the time somehow. If he does get 8 hours/OT week, do i also receive it when he takes his annual 3-4 weeks off during the years? thanks in advance for the clarification.

58:24 is hours and minutes for the whole week (6 days)

When converted to evaluated hours it's 9.6 hours a day. While technically not considered overtime the regular is compensated at a rate equal to 40 straight + 8 overtime hours. If they finish the route under evaluation they still get the whole 40 + 8 hours compensation.

Now for an RCA. 5 days is 48 hours and 6 days is 57.6 hours. If you are the primary sub you are entitled to work 48 hours for the week. If another sub is available they can make you, or you can request a relief day that week.

Pay wise... if you do not go over 40.0000 hours for the week you get the evaluated hours at straight time. If you go over 40 hours actually worked you get straight time for the first 40, and overtime for all hours over 40.

If you work 6 days on the route and take 40 hours and 1 minute you will actally lose $459.07

Deer Smearer,  Do the same rules apply to a designation 74 RCA that has been assigned to a vacate route.

Basically yes. The only difference there is if you are the 74 for 90 days you get annual leave and sick leave. You won't qualify for them until after 90 days. After 90 days they are credited retroactive to the first day. Once you are no longer in a leave earning status annual leave is paid out and sick leave is banked for use once in leave earning status again.

So if I complete a route under evaluation but over 40 hrs I get screwed the balance of the difference?

Absolutely.

Your best bet is to learn to run the route as close to evaluation as possible to minimize any potential missed income.

If you know you can beat evaluation and stay under 40 fine. But 1 minute over 40 will be an expensive lesson learned.

Also, any work counts towards the 40.000000 like express, assistance on other routes, clerk work, working on city routes, or just pulling weeds out of the parking lot... it all counts.

Don't underestimate manglement's ability to give you just enough extra work to go over 40 if it can save them from paying more.

thanks for the info.....i will have to read it several times to understand it....since work week runs Saturday to friday  I am usually given relief day during the week so that takes the potential OT off the table correct?

regular carrier gets 8 OT every week....geez....no wonder he's fighting a route adjustment .....

I need to stop playing beat the clock during his hiatus' and stop coming in 3+ hours under evaluation every day!!

If you can stay under 40 beating evaluation is ok. If you work at evaluation (9.6 × 5) for the 48 hours, those 8 hours are at time and a half. Beating evaluation and staying under 40 hours still has you missing out on $69.60

Manglement cannot pull you from the primary to prevent you from going over 40 hours. They can limit you to the 48.

The subject of Subs and OT is way over complicated. Simple answer. Work to evaluated hours. Actual worked hours are key. Over 40 actual-overtime. Under 40 actual-No overtime.

Foolish me, I just thought that being an RCA with a designation of 74 you would at least be rewarded for staying under evaluation up to the full evaluation by being compensated the full amount. I was under by 2 hours last week on a 44k so I guess my being efficient cost me approximately $65. Oh well live and learn, but I will not slow down my personal time is more important to me than the money!

I think you found your answer with the personal time. Depending on your office-here is the Catch 22. You are fast and efficient, therefore you will be given more work time because of your efficiency.
