RCA and shipping them out

I am looking for a reference for our RCA about anything on this shipping out, he has been shipped out 3x last week and was wondering if there was any clarification on this besides being a lapdog for our new PM who is helping his buddy's out. He doesn't mind picking up extra days but would like to know the ins and out since this seems to be the norm for him. In other words, PM called him that morning to be at a certain station that was not ours. I cannot find anything. Thanks

This exactly why the RCA in our office quit when the new contract was revealed. She was not going to be sent here and there at management whim. Since 50 miles is the limit, that means a 100 mile radius of your home office. If you are driving about 50 miles to the assigned office and the route is 100+ miles, in snow country, in deep winter. I wouldn't want be in this situation either. I personally think that the subs have been thrown under the bus so many times in recent contracts, that word has gotten around that it is a crappy job with no time off guaranteed. Under today's contract how many of you regulars would have signed on?

RCA needs to fill out a leave slip if they do not want to work.

I personally would submit and casually mention the slips are for job interviews. If management cannot have the RCA's back, it is time to put a little stress in management's life.

Also, RCA should never answer the phone/texts on unscheduled days unless they want to work. Decent relationships between regulars and RCAs can make an office run smoother. For example, I called my sub when I broke down and gave him a heads up that he could finish the route for the full day's pay. So he knew he needed to answer the call from the PO.

I agree with LostinDakota the RCAs have gotten the short end of the stick.

That's what going on right now in my area. Management says 50 mile radius, Union position is 50 miles. even that discrepancy in language causes our subs to travel 62 miles to work in a station that is within the so called "radius". Grievances are filed at Step 2 right now. And we wait !!

Pretty sure we have RCAs traveling over 25 miles to other POs.... not sure if it's 25 or 50 for the limit.....

First rule of thumb if you don’t wanna work don’t answer the telephone because text is not an acceptable form of communication. Secondly the RCA cannot be mandated to go if he needs to be utilized in his own office. So unless someone is calling out sick the schedule should be up and he should know when and when not to answer the telephone???

There is no limit on miles. Anything over 50 miles gets a hotel and per diem.

Whoever is traveling 62 miles and has a grievance at step2. Needs to get a hotel and get per diem, 3 meals. Stop bending over to please management. You want it to stop, meke em pay! And get a pay advance for the hotel.

And what's funny about borrowing in. There's been random RCAs in my office to cover Saturdays for months. But all the 2080 AL I submitted that includes Saturday's has been denied. "We can't force in available RCAs to work".

I have the opposite problem. My sub, RCA, is looking to go elsewhere for hours. She runs a 3 hr route everyday and my route when I'm off. She went somewhere else, found out they have a 60 yo regular about to retire soon and she wants to xfer there. Damn shame because she is an amazing sub. I'd hate to lose here but these things happen I guess.
I hope she doesn't go but I can't blame her.

I was hoping to find something more in the contract, this is a 4-month sub who doesn't know that they were given a choice. Like I said he doesn't mind going and picking hours up. Surely there has to be something in the contract or some kind of guidelines.

My instructor mentioned this in RCA training (RCA for almost 2 months now). If my regular can't complete route and I go and finish, am I entitled to the entire eval and does the fact that I am still in my probationary period affect this in anyway? Thanks in advance.

Probationary period should have no impact on you being paid to complete the route. The only way I can think it would matter is if you are being paid actual time versus evaluated time, and I assume you are under the evaluated pay structure.

Yes the 5 pay period allowance (?) just finished for me. Thank you for the reply
