RCA First time on a route. Is the pay hourly or Evaluation time?

For someone subbing a route for the first time, is the pay hourly or evaluation if time went over?

Is helping on parcels or taking a small piece when I helped others on that route considered to being on it? I've done that twice a while back. This was my first time scheduled on it and I did get help with parcels and pieces but still went over time (it was after the holiday weekend).

They gave me evaluation pay instead of hourly.Told them about it but they said thats that.

In our office, if you receive help on a route, they consider that route as split & all are on a green card. The first time you run a route or if you haven't run a route in 1 year, you should be paid hourly if you go over the evaluation. This is in the contract and it's only for the 1 day. If your scheduled 2 days on a new route, the first day is hourly (if over eval) & the 2nd day is evaluation. Either way, it sounds like you should get the actual hours that you worked the route. Our subs are working over 40 hours every week now so it would be a moot point for them.

Article 9.2.M from contract

M. Training Pay

craft employee will be paid the greater of the actual
hours worked or the evaluation of the route (up to 40

2. A newly appointed rural carrier craft employee or a
leave replacement assigned to more than one route
will be allowed a reasonable period with pay to
become familiar with the route and become proficient.
3. A leave replacement utilized on a route which he/she
has not served in the past 12 months will be paid the
greater of actual hours worked or the evaluation of the
route (up to 40 hours).
