RCA pay for a late truck, wait time

50ways

My office has had many trucks running 30-45 minutes late in the past few weeks. I will be completely ready to go, except I have to wait on these trucks. The regulars and RCA's told me to write down how long I had to wait and that I would get paid for it. Well, per usual in my office, I didn't get paid any extra this last check. Before I take it up with the postmaster I want to know just what I should be getting paid.

Let's say one day the truck is late. I'm ready to go at 9:30 but I have to wait until 10:00 for the truck. Let's say I leave 15 minutes later. The 9 hours is over at 4:30, but I get back at 3pm. Do I still get paid for waiting 30 minutes for the truck and at what rate? I make $17.40 /hr. I've worked here about 10 months.

Thank you for all your help.

Although you probably haven't yet passed your probation, you could file a grievance. In the old days (a couple of years ago), any rca that made any kind of complaint was just fired, if under 90 work days (probation). Now the pmg has agreed to keep them "at all cost" and it does give you some wiggle room concerning grievances. It would still be best for you to call your steward and maybe he could file a class action grievance where no name is listed as the complainant, and everyone that has been waiting gets paid. By the way congratulations for only having worked 10 months and beating your evaluation.

Do I get paid at the rate of $17.40/hr then?

In the past I have brought up pay issues with the OIC. We finally have a new permanent postmaster and I haven't brought up any issues with him yet. This would be the first. I have noticed that there are a lot of issues. When I look back on things now I see a lot of things I should have gotten paid for but didn't because I didn't know about it. I've never worked for a company like this.

What do you mean "beating my evaluation?"

Do you show it as a break? You are an hourly employee and still get paid the hourly rate. You will be paid the evaluated hours for the route unless you go over 40 actual hours for the week.
