Rca second jobs

I would find a second shift job at a retail store Wally world or something similar. Stay away from nights unless you are prepared for some really really long days

I said it wouldn't be easy, but yesterday they had us deliver the every box "work for the census" postcards... they claim flexible hours...so maybe that? Although I imagine the competition will be greater than usual. :p

Its obviously important to have a job, but most people do not want to have contact with a large amount of ppl with the virus issue in this country.

Unclewolverine -- "My office finally hired our last open rca position, so my gravy train of covering those extra days are coming to an end. What kind of flexible jobs have you guys held in the past to help make ends meet until you make/made regular? "

-- Congratulations to your manglement on its hiring practices. Maybe they could share them with other not so fortunate post offices.

-- Is the USPS the only "game" in town?

-- As "drakeME" noted the retention rate for RCA's is not exactly something the USPS can brag about, so you still may have some routes to cover -- or possibly help train new RCA's.

-- If you do find a second job, the USPS will say ( demand ) that they are top priority over other jobs. So when you find other work, it's up to you if you want to share that with manglement. Know the post office and manglement's phone numbers so you can decide to pick up -- or not.

-- Any other post offices in the area you could "farm" yourself out to as "Voglio-il mio" suggested? The new contract "allows" other post offices to "grab" unscheduled RCA's to fill-in.

-- Any business that would appear to be in competition with the USPS is consider "off-limits", such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, and Amazon "contract" delivery.
Scenerio: I am called and agree to help a PO fifty miles away I am there prepping to get out of office. My home office calls to let me know my regular is sick and I need to replace her. What happens? What would have happened IF I was on the route delivering instead of just in office prepping to leave?

-- Probably a scenario that never occured to those in higher pay grades.

-- The new contract allows other offices to "grab" unscheduled RCA's to work in their post office. But does not address the home office needing a "loaned" RCA to come back.

-- 1) Did the home office call you directly or 2) Did the call the PM of the office you were working at?

- If 1 - why did you answer the phone?
- If 2 - the PM should tell your home office that you are already "scheduled" to work there. Find someone else!!
- If already out on the "new" route, you should not be answering the phone. If you do, politely tell the home office you are out delivering - sorry. If no RCA's available at the home office, you could suggest manglement "suit up" or not. Manglement's lack of proper prior planning could end result in two offices being messed up if you return to the home office.

-- In either case, it probably would take you an hour(+) to return to the home post office. If no one bothered to put up any mail, that would put you even further behind. And most likely get "hurry up" comments from home office manglement.

Remember! RCA's are not on call employee's! We dont get paid to sit and wait to be called in.

If you want to answer that's fine (mine wont stop calling till I do lol) And then thank them for following the contract and offering you work, following the order of considerations!

If you're already working somewhere else, tell them that. Is it your first day off in 9 days? Say you're unfit for duty today. Or just dont pick up ?‍♂️ Management doesnt pay your phone bill.

Where is it that RCAs are not "on call?" I know I read it once but I'm having trouble finding it again.

Our PO recently told an RCA in our office they would be written up if they reached a certain number of incidences of not answering there phone on unscheduled days.

Here in MI I'm in a 10 route office with 10 RCA's plus an ARC. We always try to reassure subs to get/keep 2nd job. It has been extremely rare that it's ever been a problem.

-- If you can read upside down, see the attachment!

-- Also note that it is unfortunately "non-citable" - but you don't have to tell manglement.

"certain number of incidences"

-- Probably best not to ask what the "number" is.

Thats good to know because I've started looking around and the very shallow job pool is all full time. I guess that I didn't make it clear how rural Kansas I'm in. There is no door dash, there is no uber, the one family run grocery store don't need help. We are talking po-dunk no where; hour and a half drive to get to any where that could be called somewhere. Jobs are scarce enough that ive heard every rca position in an hour drive is filled; and since this whole Corona deal started no one has been taking any time off so I'm only getting my one day a week.

Hey thanks a ton! Made someone's day!

I was cut to 2 days a week. I've been subbing on highway contract routes in my office. Only a couple of our HCRs have subs to they are all exited.

Going way back into the time machine memories here.... I was lucky enough as an RCA to work at a MOM N POP full service gas station. No groceries or coffee sold. I did fill ups and small repairs. Boss did the big jobs. Thankfully they were understanding and let me work at the PO when needed or suddenly called in the AM and kept me on their books.

Once I became an AUX runner and fulltime REG I still did part time work doing dishes at a local college after work. 20+ hrs a week until I moved up in steps to support a home as a solo. FYI did the dish thing for 6 years after REG higher table assignment.
