Regular curtails mail every week.

I know regulars can get help/paid to deliver mail that is leftover from their RCA.  What about an RCA who has to deliver leftover mail, i.e. EDD, full coverage, 2nd and 3rd class mail? It's an 8.2 eval'd route.  We start at 7 and dispatch is 5.  Management will separate out mail for him; so, he can get back by 5. This happens every week.  I manage to case and deliver all my mail, and his leftovers, with 2-3 hours to spare.  Shouldn't I get paid for doing his job also?  Oh, yeah, and then I get to case Advo when I come back because I finished before eval. So, once again I'm doing part of his job for him for the next day.  As a side note, cause I know you'll ask, he's also 5 years younger than I am.  Can I grieve this?

You sure can.

Here ya go:

Stop finishing before eval. Work slower and let that yo-yo case his own advos. Ask your PM if you can leave an equal amount of mail for him to deliver on Monday. (or whatever his next day back is) I did that when I was a sub and just like magic, I never had curtailed mail to deal with on a Saturday ever again. ;)

Kanedog -- With manglement sorting out mail for the regular so he can make dispatch and you get stuck delivering what was cut, no sense in alerting manglement because they are in on it.

--  Get the Assistant District Representative involved, if you don't have an office steward.

--  Until then, time yourself casing and or delivering what was cut for the regular.   Request payment via the 1314-A.   If denied, there is your grievance.

--  Also search for "full day" in RI's KNOWLEDGEBASE section for some help.

"I manage to case and deliver all my mail, and his leftovers, with 2-3 hours to spare. "

--  You must be more organized than the regular.  But take to heart a city carrier mantra:   go slow -- more dough.   go fast -- won't last.

" I get to case Advo when I come back because I finished before eval."

--  Casing Advo just because you are under eval is not a valid reason - not that manglement would care.

--  If ordered to do so, do it, then smile and file - after getting with the ADR.

--  You did your assigned work ( and more! ), you should go home -- period.  Just like a regular who finished under evaluated time.

--  Looks as if manglement should be observing your regular's work habits if cutting mail is the only way he can make dispatch.

Thanks Oi Vey,  I read the Step-4 agreement you provided.  I think it's the 4th paragraph where it says I can be compensated to 'avoid paying overtime' that I have a question about.  I thought Regulars only got overtime during the Christmas OT period; so, that wouldn't apply to me in this case.  Is this step-4 as ambiguous as the contract?

I think so. lol

But a good stew can fight the fight for you. Talk to your PM first. If no joy, then file.

Talk to your in-house stew before the PM. If none, then call your ADR, explain the situation and ask if this step 4 can be used. I think it can. :)
