Regular Issues

Too bad the user was deleted. I too am old and would like to be retired but I am stubborn enough to hang around just out of spite if someone was trying to force me out.

When I was an RCA I always came in less time than the regular. I had places to go and things to do. Lucky for me we did not have the GPS then. As many other regulars I did not make regular until later in life: hence I will need to work much longer than I really want. If you are in FERS the only thing that builds your retirement check is time.

I still think many carriers either do not realize or maybe just do not care their every movement may under scrutiny. I like to observe if carriers curb the wheels, if the vehicle is running, if the vehicle is secured, if the carrier is running to the door with parcels. I always wonder how they get away with it or how long until they have a problem.

Like most carriers I occasionally go over evaluation after holidays, Mondays, days with bad weather or poor roads, and of course Christmas. Then I get my aux help to keep me out of Christmas OT. I feel bad going home early, not. No 2080 problems; maybe I am old and slow or maybe I am just smart.

Unfortunately the OP left the forum so I can't pile on, but I can't let this go by without commenting: No surprise the OP was not a union member . . .

Maybe, let us hope, the OP grows up before they come back to the forum. It is unfortunate the OP didn't stay and entertain us with more comments like the above. He/she, God willing, will get old too and I really hope he/she is respected for what they bring to the job in their experience, which usually means you are older. I didn't get my career position with the USPS until I was 45, basic math here.....45 plus a 20 year career equals 65.

This is a very sore subject to me as I was tortured and bullied daily trying to get me to retire early. Even the person doing the bullying told the POOM, my work wasnt the problem, she just wanted me gone to make room for her friend she hired for my job. It wasn't a secret, the friend told the Trainer at the Rural Academy from day one that "he had a job as soon as he got his probation time in". I always wondered why the Postal Service didn't step in sooner to stop the abuse, which they KNEW was going on. My abuser is gone now. My own personal feeling are usually older workers cost more in wages and benefits. A simple truth.

I have seen firsthand the circling sharks in the water at my PO. I am the unlucky recipient of a major work related injury. It is beyond disgusting to see the instantaneous change in behavior of the senior RCA. While I am repeatedly being wheeled off to the operating room, this RCA is out telling my beloved customers that I am keeping HIM out of a regular job.

Umm...I wish he/she didn't leave the forum because...are you freaking kidding me?! I think we all couldn't wait to be regulars but I, myself had way too much respect for the senior carriers who had worked at the PO since the year I was born! (Which was fun to remind them of in a very friendly way!) I considered these people friends and still do. Imagine if that was your parent, or someday you! Like someone else said, you don't know why they are still working, there are many possibilities. It's really NONE of your business or your problem and again, like someone else said, if you can't handle something like this, maybe find the door and don't let it hit you on the way out. Sorry but this pretty much disgusted me. :END RANT

Shafted -- " While I am repeatedly being wheeled off to the operating room, this RCA is out telling my beloved customers that I am keeping HIM out of a regular job. "

-- It was unfortunate the RCA wasn't able to hold your hand while you were on the operating table -- just in case the doctors had to use the defibrillator paddles. Maybe the jolt would result in a more civil RCA.

I retired this past year and not only was I happy about retiring I was happy for the next guy up. The next RCA to make regular. I remember when I started and after I got a little seniority how much I wanted to see a few of the older carriers retire so I would move up but I don't think I was anywhere near as crass as our deleted RCA was.

Poor kid, he didn't realize he happened on to a site with a bunch of us "old fart" carriers. I would have responded earlier but I was goofing off on my route putting in 13 and 14 hours so I could make my sub help me when I start to go over 56 hours in a week.

For everybody else and maybe for this sub that dropped off this site if he has turned into a "lurker", no carrier can ever file any grievance concerning what another carrier does or doesn't do. We can only file against what management does incorrectly or when they don't follow the contract correctly. By not following a direct order, he would be the only one not following the contract, in the situation that he described. He also would be the only one that could be disciplined. If he then filed he would lose, which would alert the "old" regular of his disgruntled attitude towards him. When regulars get really mad at a sub trying to push them out the door early, (just before they retire) they tend to make a "mutual" trade with some 21 year old from another office on the condition that they treat "this" 29 year old like they were treated. I really enjoyed reading all the responses above, you've made this old, tired carrier's night, thanks to all of you.

I am an RCA.....while we have an oldster in our office, I don't begrudge him a thing. He earned his right to be as slow or fast as he wishes.

The regular I do begrudge is the one that consistently comes to work late, receives 80% of customer complaints, has had numerous LLV "accidents" reported as "incidents" so management doesn't have to do the paper work. this carrier is the office "sweetheart" and gets away with things that would cause an RCAs termination. During xmas, it sometimes took three RCAs and the regular to get this carriers route done due to the lack of the carriers organization and blatant stupidity.Such is the disastrous state of this carriers case and route. We, the RCAs would still be out delivering this carriers route, while this carrier beat it back to the office and left for the day. (all the while the OIC calling us and telling us repeatedly to make the truck) This carrier is constantly over evaluation, yet any RCA can do it well within evaluation. Nothing is said....nothing is done....Yet let the RCAs that dare bring to the attention of MGT the tangled mess this carrier and route are, and we are ostracized out of the office and off the matrix with the new, less vocal RCAs taking our seniority place. This carrier goes through RCAs like water, and this route remains sub~less more often than not. My ponderazation(sic) is why are the bad apples kept in the barrel, when there are good ones waiting on the tree for their chance to be eaten?

Vey well said. That sums up a situation that sadly is the norm in some offices. We have a carrier who has figured out how to play hide and go seek every day, even with the scanner leaving bread crumbs of our whereabouts. You would think that with the RIMMS software, and mgt's ability to track our every move, that this would be addressed, but no. You would think that with AVUS software for the mileage, and fuel tracking of the LLV's , that this would be addressed, but no. When I see this carrier miles off of her routes designated line of travel while delivering she looks like a deer in the headlights. All this nonsense comes down to a case of mgt., knows that this particular person "knows where the bodies are buried so to speak".

you would think.......................i firmly believe as long as it gets done, MGT doesnt want to know the hows.(and certainly doesn't look at the unfairness of it) And wontingly overlooks all the infractions.

wolfound -- "The regular I do begrudge..."

-- Those that seem to get away with everything usually know something or have something on manglement that manglement would rather not be made public. In other words, the problem carriers know "where the bodies are buried". And manglement would be happy to keep the bodies buried.

I am 48 and the "baby" in our APO, even all of the subs waiting in line are older than me, but oh boy are they circling, we have 3 regulars that can retire now, but are not ready, I when I was a sub, I just waited patiently for my turn to become regular. These ones now, are like vultures sometimes, all we as regulars hear, when are you going to retire, when do you think so and so is gonna retire. Well, I still have a minium of 14 years left til I'm 62, I could go at 60 with 20 if I can afford it by then, but who knows.

By the time I retire, I highly doubt any of those subs will still be around, they would be in their last 60's to late 70's by then, so they will take these routes that come open now and still be gone before me but they still ask if I'm thinking about it, nothing to think about unless I get injured and can't work.

Newbie shadowed me the other day & all he wanted to know is when he could expect to go Regular! Our office is 2-5 yrs depending on growth & retirement. Our seniors aren't really that old so they have a 2-4 years before they plan on leaving. One newbie was "told" he'd be working full time hours, yet we are still hiring like crazy & soon most of our routes will be on Saturday Ks if they so choose.

It's like that here, too--to the point of bullying, if you ask me. Person X is "in the way of" not only subs but other less senior regulars and no one makes any effort to hide their contempt for the situation. It's pretty disgusting that these "climbers" would openly treat people so ignorantly. Just imagine what goes on in private or amongst their chosen cronies...

I hope all regulars who've made their way up to a route they enjoy stay on as long as they want to, if only to thwart the ambitions of circling sharks like that.

Senior regular, and injured here folks. Anyone want to take a walk in my shoes? The office setting is vile and disgusting.

HardearnedTan -- "It's like that here, too--to the point of bullying, if you ask me."

-- Probably you need to take a look at the April 2016 issue of the NRLCA magazine for the article on BULLYING IN THE WORK PLACE.

-- However, most likely it will not help change the atmosphere in the office.

-- About the only consolation will be some day the "climbers" will be treated the same.

The RCA who was HIRED for my job, told the other RCA in the parking lot the other day........"Why is ________ (Regular Route One) staying and working, she could retire. ______ has so much money, she will never be able to spent it all."

This was me he was talking about, I have never talked about or mentioned anything about my finances to anyone in the Post Office. We do live in a small town and most people can guess what you may have; but why would anyone be worried about when I can retire or how much money I do or don't have. I so wish my health holds out because I really like the work and still can do the work and I make my evaluation each day. Have never missed the dispatch truck in almost 27 years. The way I feel right now, that 50 year old whippersnapper may knows exact how it feels to work into your 60's. He thinks I am going to retire this summer....NOT. I just hope I am there the day said whippersnapper hears........Oh by the way, __________ (Regular, Route One) is staying for another year and then another year oh yes......another year and so on and so on. As long as I can do the work, I should have the job.....it is called choice. No one should be bullied out of their job, the job they have earned and waited for.
