Regular on Vacation

Ok we all know that MGT doesn't want the RCA's going over 40.

Since the Regular on My Primary will be on vacation this coming week (4th of July week) I am scheduled to run the route starting tomorrow (Sat) for the remainder of the week, except the 4th since it's a holiday.

I know that I can easilly run it under or at evaluation and will get evaluated time. With that being said, I am sure that I will have to split some routes and run Amazon on Sunday.

Now to the question: If I have to run my route, split other routes and run Amazon and I am at 40 hours on Thursday, can Mgt force me off running my Primary on Friday because they don't want to pay OT?

Short answer... No

Long answer... No

As deer smeared said, no.

Show this to them if they try to schedule you off:

In my area RCAs do not do Amazon if they are covering a regular route for a full week. They do not do Amazon if it will put them over 40 hours.

Amazon is just part of it, there is also having to split routes. Then they bitch or want to pull you off your route on Friday because you are going over 40 even though the cause is all the extras not the route.

The problem is your manager is afraid of being yelled at for any over 40 hour work by his superiors. #1 in the order of consideration speaks of " may be replaced to avoid overtime or additional overtime". Most managers mis-understand this to mean no work over 40 hours. What it actually means is no work past 40 hours ( if your route is a 40-k) or no work past the evaluation of your route if larger (no additional overtime). Which means you should be earning "some" overtime if you work your evaluation. What makes a manager push and push to convince rca's to work under 40 (even to the point of "helping" rca's falsify the 4240 to work less than 40 and "earn the full evaluation") is upper managers trying to show we work less than our evaluation more than frequently, known as "the bump". If you are scheduled to work a whole week you are not normally supposed to be used to help split routes or work on Sunday's because this work will cause you to work for free if you work more than 40, but less than your evaluation, or in some cases up to your evaluation.

Up thread it was mentioned that an Arc could work on Saturday. Yes that is in the new contract, but no Arc in the nation that I know of has been given any training on handling mail, to get that training they have to be hired as an Rca and given that training. To date that hasn't happened for Arcs, I don't know if the USPS or the NRLCA is not in favor of working Arcs as the contract agreed, but it isn't happening.

--  Back in November 2016, that ARC's were being training on Saturday classes with 5 to 6 in each class.   ( If manglement isn't utilizing ARC's as intended, that's on manglement and regular and or RCA's if they are not bringing that fact to the attention of the ADR. ) ( Must be ARC training isn't that extensive if only for one day. )

--  There was a posting on RI in May that mentioned Rural Academy classes didn't differentiate between ARC and RCA training, but gave RCA Training to both.  Supposedly with RCA training in the record, an ARC could convert to RCA when an RCA position opened up.   Without the RCA training, an ARC would have to go back to the academy for that training.

--  Per page 23 of the ARC Power Point Presentation:  In light of the expansion of Sunday/holiday parcel delivery service, the parties have agreed to establish a new, non-career leave replacement employee classification:  assistant rural carrier ( ARC ).   ARC's may only perform Saturday, Sunday, and holidays duties and will be paid on an hourly basis using the rate of pay in Table Four,....

Even if ARCs did have the "same" training... they still have to apply & TEST in. Way back in the day, we hired TRCs off the street. Although they were assigned to a route, they still had to take the "test" to move to RCA. These ARCs are very similar in this aspect except that they have NO assigned route and are to be used as last resort before calling/scheduling a Reg on their relief day. They are NOT to be part of the "formula" nor are they a reason to NOT hire RCAs. They are a temporary solution to a temporary problem and should be treated as such. They are also HOURLY & not salaried.

I'm not trying to be argumentative or disagree with what I've read on this post. Just pointing out that the person is an ARC and is working on Saturday. We also have an ARC converting to RCA.

Any Academy trainers here who can tell us what training ARCs receive? We have one in my office, but she just works Sundays, and I've never met her.
