Required to exceed evaluation

Has anyone been advised to exceed evaluation? I received a verbal reprimand would could lead to a written warning. Here is the scenario:

Start time is at 7:00 and be back by 5:00.

Primary route is an 8.6 hour K. Split route is a 4.5 hour aux. route.

I fully cased the aux route which I recorded 2 hours on.

This accounts for 10.6 hours in the work day and doesn't account for break time.

7:00 to 5:00 is 10 Hours.

I was advised that I need to call by 2 or 3 so they can send help if I won't be back by 5.

This could be difficult since our relief is also running a split.

Help me here. Has anyone been through this?

Not sure by your post if they are requiring you to exceed evaluation or not. You say 10.6 hours scheduled but 10 hours allowed.

First, you are not required to use your phone to call anyone.

Second, 8.6 + 2 is 10.6 but you need to add 30 minutes for lunch to that. So that's 11.1 hours or 7:00 - 6:06 is the time necessary. Don't run or work at an unsafe pace just to meet manglement's requests.

Let them fix their own problems.

I'm having a little trouble understanding how they are asking you to exceed evaluation. Maybe it's the wording that's confusing me; do you mean that by scheduling you for your primary and 1/2 of the aux. route they are unrealistically expecting you to complete your duties within that 10 hour (7-5) window?  Am I getting that right?  If so then Article 8, section 2 of the contract addresses this:  "<strong>Daily schedules shall be established to coincide with the daily evaluation of the route and adjusted periodically as required. The carrier’s work day may vary above or below the daily evaluation of the route as mail volume fluctuates and road and weather conditions change.</strong>"

Likewise, Article 30.G. states, "<strong>Schedules should be realistic, based upon the receipt and availability of mail and other related service conditions. The rural carrier will receive reasonable advanced notice when the schedule is to be changed.</strong>”

So unless they change your starting time to 6:30 or earlier and give you advance notice for doing so they are violating the contract by unrealistically expecting you to do the amount of work you're doing in 10 hours or less with no break.  Article 14 Section 1.and Section 2.A. address management’s responsibility to provide a safe working condition for all employees and the employees’ rights. If you feel that they you being pressured or forced to work in a manner that places you in an unsafe situation, just to comply with these unrealistic directives, you may request a PS Form 1767, fill out the form and return it to your immediate supervisor. Discuss the issue with your immediate supervisor and, if unresolved, immediately file a grievance and contact the assigned Assistant District Representative.

Thank you both. I forgot about the phone issue. Bud-the one issue which still creates questions is the route evaluation as it relates to a PTF. Not being a regular, do the evaluations still apply per contract as shown. Case in point-I'm over 55 and based on performance-could they make a time allowance if you don't have a weekly fixed route?
