RHD-incentive payment

Many carriers believe that the RHD incentive payment is for new vehicles, it is not only for new vehicles, but for vehicles that have not yet been used on a mail route. Imports into the US are currently allowed after 25 years with no penalty, so any vehicle from one of the Japanese import companies is eligible for the $1000 payment, even though they are not new. Two awards were just received in my office for theses vehicles. Read R-122.50 under the steward reference guide for all the info you will need and the forms you need to fill out. Your pm has 10 days to send them off and apply for your award. Don't allow 60 days to pass after you buy the vehicle because you could lose the opportunity for your award.
I think you are mistaken...they have to be 5 years old or newer to get the $500...and have to be NEW (RHD FACTORY) to get the $1000....2 carriers in the last year in my office done this recently...one was DENIED any incentive of a japanese import bc was OVER 5 years old...and another got a factory right hand drive jeep with only 5k miles and only 1 year old and thought he could get the $1000 but just got $500 bc was NOT NEW (even though less than 1 year old and only 5k miles). Both of them were upset to say the least.

If you read the MOU # 8 carefully you will see where it mentions that the RHD vehicle will be " Incentive payable" if it is newer than 5 years, or NOT PREVIOUSLY TITLED. I coppied and pasted it here for you to see:

A vehicle will be considered a manufactured right-hand drive
vehicle provided it falls into one of the two categories that
follow:
A. Factory Right-Hand Drive Vehicle
1. The right-hand drive vehicle purchased must be a
new current model year vehicle or prior model
year vehicle that has not previously been titled;
and
2. The manufacturer such as Chrysler or Subaru produces the vehicle as a right-hand drive vehicle; or
B. Re-Engineered Right-Hand Drive Vehicle
1. The vehicle must be five years or less in age at the
time the rural carrier has the vehicle re-engineered;
2. The vehicle has been re-engineered to right-hand
drive specifications as determined or approved by
the parties;

All of the Japanese import vehicles would fall into this category due to never being titled in the US.
Hopefully this helps all carriers that are contemplating buying an imported vehicle.

I am well aware of the "rhd" forms contained in the RI knowledgebase.

Yes, 2 forms to be filled out, 1st one mainly says I intend to purchase RHD vehicle & the 2nd form is the details on the vehicle. The 2nd form is obviously not necessary if the PO is going to up come up with a vehicle. Ha Ha

I know damn well, there is a record of this check. I am not exactly dealing with a competent person.

Mou #8 does not say anything about the vehicle needing to be 5 years or newer. Can someone show me where you’re getting that information? Thank you

1. The vehicle must be five years or less in age at the

This is specifically for Re-Engineered rhd vehicles. Located on page 1 of mou#8.

Where does it say that?

I apologize. It was page 1 on my Adobe acrobat. The copy I have saved is from the union steward reference guide under "R" for right hand drive vehicles. Click on that and then mou 8.
